4.1. Senator Walz - Behavior/Mental Health Bill

Discussion:
Dan Schnoes discussed the committee work being done with Senator Walz. They are discussing bringing a bill forward regarding School Mental Health. One option would be putting a social worker in each ESU and one coordinator at the state level. Trying to secure funding sources to help promote the bill. Need to provide treatment along with researching the root causes of need for mental health. The mental health conversation are happening all through out the state and other states and needs are very similar. The committee will continue to meet to discuss the best process to move forward to build a network of support. The will be a bill from Senator Stinner for the Day Center in Scottsbluff. MTSS staff are becoming more vital. There will be a Mental Health Forum again this summer. Continued discussions regarding the causes of mental health and how the food we eat, exercise, etc are a factor in treatments. |
