February 10, 2020 at 7:00 PM - Board of Education Regular Meeting

Rationale:  Information concerning the Open Meeting Law, Chapter 84, Article 14 of Nebraska State Statutes, is posted in the meeting room and at a location accessible to members of the public. 

Mrs. Kari Loseke, Board President, will call the Board of Education Regular meeting to order.

Rationale: 

The Board Secretary will conduct roll call attendance. 

Rationale:  Dr. Chris Stogdill, Otte-Middle School Principal, will introduce Perry Beniot, an 8th grade student who won the school-wide Geography Bee.  Perry will lead the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rationale:  Donations we would like to recognize but do not require Board action:

• BHS Show Choir received $500 from the Blair Community Schools Foundation.
• Otte-Blair Middle School Library received $197.74 from The Field Family in memory of their Aunt. 
• Mr. Carson Norine, HAL Coordinator, received a $500 grant from the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation to purchase books for HAL. 

We would like to thank you all for your great generosity and commitment to Blair Community Schools. 

Rationale:  In June 2018, Cubby's pledge to donate $1.00 for every large pizza they sold to Blair Community Schools. We received a check from Cubby's in the amount of $1,528.

With the addition of this donation, the total amount Cubby's has donated since the beginning of their pledge is $8,533. Thank you to Cubby's for their continued support and commitment to Blair Community Schools. 

Rationale:  Communication and Board Consideration and possible action:

Blair High School 11th & 12th Grade Concert Band Request:  Mr. Jeff Mount, High School Band Instructor, and Mr. Tom Anderson, High School Principal, are requesting permission for the 11th & 12th Grade High School Concert Band to travel to Lincoln to perform in a concert with the Wesleyan University Concert Band, on Sunday, March 1, 2020.  The trip would require the use of two (2) buses and an equipment truck for the larger instruments. 

Administration is recommending this    to be approved for the students with parental permission.  

Rationale:  This is the portion of the meeting when members of the public may address the board about matters of public concern.

The Policy Committee met on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 10:00am.  Meeting minutes are attached.

Rationale:  Approval of a contract with Mrs. Kelli Westphal, beginning the 2020-21 school year, as the High School Language Arts Teacher. 

• Mrs. Westphal was previously employed for three (3) years at Blair High School as an Language Arts Teacher.  She also served as the Drama Director and Musical Director.
