7.5. Blair High School Gym Lights
Rationale:
Serious safety problems have arisen with the Blair High School main gym lights. Excessive vibrations from roof repair and apparent subsequent metal fatigue has caused several of the light unit’s mounting brackets and/or light dome covers to fracture or completely break. Several light units are only hanging from safety straps, which were added to the units in recent years. Safety chains were also immediately added to the dome units when damage was discovered. New lighting units were installed over the Weight Room (south mezzanine) area a few years ago, but the main gym and north mezzanine were omitted from that project. These light units are original to the gym (constructed circa 1970) and in addition to being aged, do not perform well in terms of energy efficiency.
The recommendation to the Board is that the light units in the main gym and north mezzanine at Blair high School should be replaced immediately due to safety concerns. |
