8.7. Early Childhood Education Program Instruction Hours
Rationale:
According to Rule 11: Regulations for the Approval of Prekindergarten Programs established by School Boards or Educational Service Units and for the Issuance of Early Childhood Education Grants, Section 005.01 Instructional Hours, each program will operate a minimum of 12 instructional hours per week during the school year. Programs receiving grant funds pursuant to this chapter or receiving Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act (TEEOSA) funds will operate a minimum of 450 instructional hours per school year.
Section 005.01A Pursuant to the provisions of neb. Rev Stat §79-213, school systems unable to meet the minimum for instructional hours due to epidemic sickness, severe storm conditions or destruction of the school house may requestion permission from the Board of Education to offer fewer than the minimum hours by submitting an affidavit sworn to by the secretary of the school board explaining the circumstances resulting in the request. As of this date and with the projected end of the 2022-2023 school year being on Thursday May 18, 2023 for our preschool program, we will have completed a total of 445 hours. The reason for being unable to meet the 450 hours is because the school district had four (4) days (13 hours) of school cancellation due to severe storm conditions. Knowing we may not meet the 450 preschool hours, we added an additional day of preschool on Wednesday, February 8th to make up lost hours of instruction. |
