1. Milford Public Schools Board of Education Information
More Information:
Mission Statement - Milford Public Schools will prepare all students to be successful citizens: Our Mission is fulfilled when all students read with comprehension, speak and write clearly, compute accurately, reason logically, understand and appreciate the fine arts, apply suitable strategies and habits of mind to solve problems, utilize technology to communicate and to understand information and behave morally.
This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution. A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office. Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting. The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary. |

More Information:
This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. Thank you for your participation. |

Please see attached report.
|
4.3. Discuss 2017/18 Option Enrollment Requests
More Information:
Please see attached report. We will not act on these until the March meeting. As of today, I do not see a reason to deny these requests. |
4.4. Discuss State Funding for Public Education
More Information:
I have a document attached for discussion purposes.
|
4.5. Discuss Planning Items for the 2017-18 School Year
|
5. Board Commentary
|
6. Unfinished Business
|
6.1. Discuss/Act on 2017-18 Calendar
More Information:
Some of the changes as compared to last year are highlighted. I will discuss these briefly. I believe we are ready for approval after receiving comments from staff.
Recommended Motion(s):
Motion to approve 2017-18 Master Calendar as presented. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.
|
6.2. Discuss/Act on Bids for the Track/Football Field Replacement Project
More Information:
The bid process has been delayed due to one of the advertising exchanges failing to advertise. During the process we are looking at other possible options. Hopefully, I will have a detailed update by Monday night.
Track Numbers: I have attached a document showing our track participation numbers. It shows the last 7 years and averages, as well as a few years previous to that.
I struggle with this as much as the board does. Unfortunately, it is a part of our facility that does cost a lot of money to update. I compare it to the North gym.

7. New Business
|
7.1. Set 2017 Driver's Education Fee
More Information:
This is a yearly item for the Board. I feel we can leave the fee at the current rate: $215 for Milford resident/option students and $250 for students that live out of the District and are not option students. Conference average is $240. The program has been in the black the past five years. I feel we should keep this fee as it will cover any increased fuel prices that could occur this summer (even though prices are lower right now) or repairs needed to the vehicle (old Malibu).
Recommended Motion(s):
Motion to set the 2017 Driver’s Education fee at $215 for district resident students and approved option students and $250 for students that do not attend Milford Public Schools. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.
|
7.2. Act on Staff Resignations
More Information:
I may ask that we move into Executive Session for this item.
|
8. Executive Session
More Information:
The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Closed/Executive Session for 1) the protection of the public interest, or 2) the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and/or the individual has not requested a public meeting. When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.
Recommended Motion(s):
Motion to move into Executive Session for purposes of discussing Item VI.B. Track Replacement and Item VII.B. Staff Resignations. Executive Session is necessary for the protection of the public interest and the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of the individual or individuals because they have not requested a public hearing. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.
|
