More Information:  Mission Statement - Milford Public Schools will prepare all students to be successful citizens: Our Mission is fulfilled when all students read with comprehension, speak and write clearly, compute accurately, reason logically, understand and appreciate the fine arts, apply suitable strategies and habits of mind to solve problems, utilize technology to communicate and to understand information and behave morally.

This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution.  A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office.  Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting.  The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary.

This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. Thank you for your participation.

Bond Fund for $5,649 is the annual spring interest and fee payment.

Building Fund for $13,781.75 is for our Facility Study by Morrissey Engineering and the Survey and Topography Study by REGA Engineering Group.

Depreciation for $72,998.67 is for our new reading series.

Items to point out:

1. There are not many items to point out this month.
2. $1,224 to ACT is for the materials for the Pre ACT that our 9th and 10th graders completed.
3. $231 to Cassandra McMahan was for her accompaniment work during district music.
4. $6,085 to OnTrack and Field is for the portable runways we purchased for the track and high jump area.  Our plan is to sell these this summer.
5. $3,188 to Wenger is for the legs and railings needed to convert our music risers to a stage for graduation.  This works well as we have discussed the need for this for several years.

More Information:  We are scheduled to start the repair of the base of the track the week of May 21st.  After those repairs are made the new 3-4 inch layer of asphalt will be laid.  That will need to cure for 4-6 weeks.  Fischer track will then pour the top performance layer.  That will need a short time to cure and then they will paint the lines on the track.  This will be a summer long project and the track will be off limits to all during this time.

More Information: 

1. Adam Sparks is resigning to move to Chicago.  His fiance has accepted a job in Chicago and they are getting married in October so Adam has decided to move.  We are disappointed to lose him.  Adam is a great young teacher. 
2. We are working on a replacement.  We have several candidates we are interviewing.

1. Shanna has resigned and has accepted a Research and Instruction Specialist position with UNL. Shanna will assist in the teaching, development, implementation and delivery of research and information literacy skills to introductory courses and workshops, and serve in the Nebraska High School Users Program.  This position organizes the scheduling and instruction for research and writing projects. Shanna has worked in the district 14 years and has helped move our English department to a top notch level.  She will be missed.
2. We will be replacing Shanna with Shelly Stitt in a later agenda item.

1. Shelly Stitt has been hired for high school English
   1. Shelly has been working for the Seward County Extension since 2012
   2. She has taught English in Arizona
   3. She will be filling some extra duty assignments next year
2. Camille Wanetka has been hired to teach 3rd grading reading
   1. Camille will be at the elementary for only 3rd grade reading at this point
   2. She has taught at St. Vincent’s in Seward, Sidney and Syracuse
3. Wesley (Dakota) Morgan
   1. Dakota has taught at Lincoln Northeast this past year.
   2. He was filling in for a teacher that was on sabbatical leave and the teacher has decided to return to teaching.
   3. He also has experience in Illinois.

When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.

The Board President will restate the reason for Closed/Executive Session after the motion has been acted on.
