More Information: Mission Statement - Milford Public Schools will prepare all students to be successful citizens: Our Mission is fulfilled when all students read with comprehension, speak and write clearly, compute accurately, reason logically, understand and appreciate the fine arts, apply suitable strategies and habits of mind to solve problems, utilize technology to communicate and to understand information and behave morally.

This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution. A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office. Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting. This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to other non-agenda topics concerning the school district - since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. The District has established separate complaint procedures for any complaints, including complaints and concerns against individual employees. As such, the Board requests that this complaint process be followed before discussion with the Board takes place. Thank you for your participation.

Items to Point Out:

Depreciation payment is for the track work. We will not send it until the project is completed and it meets our standards. Right now, the new base looks great.
$29,187 to Savvas Learning is for the updated math curriculum in the 7-12 building.

Budget Update:

The Expenditure History document is attached.
Expenditures are $636,399 or 8.57% higher than this time last year. $462,123 or 73% of this increase is for payroll items.
Revenue is up $605,000 compared to this time last year.
Cash on hand is down $332,960 compared to this time last year.

More Information: The report is attached.

Some Highlights:

Our workman's compensation modifier is at .72 which is very low. This saves us money on our fees.
Still working on the requirements to be covered under the ALICAP cyber security coverage.
We have a number of lighting issues to address related to safety lights either not working or not installed.
We are addressing the concerns shared regarding the chemical storage in our high school science labs.
The ADA seating and access issues related to the football field and track are on the list again. I am working with a bleacher company on how we can address these issues.
Our space issues in the kitchens, shop, and weightroom were mentioned again this year.

Overall, it was a very positive visit.

6.3. Review, Consider, and Take All Necessary Action on the Seward County Girls Wrestling Cooperative

More Information: As I have shared at previous meetings, the superintendents and activity directors have been working on this topic and we would like to get this cooperative moving forward. All three schools have this as an action item tonight.

Informational Items:

This would be a two-year trial cooperative.
Seward has 14-16 girls interested in wrestling and Centennial and Milford have 3-6 and even a few more that have an interest in learning more about it.
Due to Seward having the larger numbers and the head coach, practices would be held in Seward. To start, the girls would practice at SHS and after the first of the year they would move to SMS as their wrestling area is available as wrestling at SMS is a 1st semester activity.
We are also discussing that the uniforms may be Seward uniforms during this trial period, as if they end up with enough girls, they may want to have their own program after two years and Centennial and Milford would stay together or join another cooperative. Each school could create their own warm-ups.
The uniforms will be uniforms designed for girls.
We are still discussing how transportation will work. We discussed taking turns transporting them to meets.

There are a lot of details to work out but we are excited to offer the girls a second winter athletic activity to participate in.

7.2. Review, Consider, and Take All Necessary Action on 2022-23 Lunch Prices

More Information: The U.S. Department of Agriculture's lunch waiver program is set to expire on June 30th as it was left out of the Federal spending bill. This means the "regular" lunch system of three tiers will be back in place - free lunch, reduced lunch and full pay lunch. I believe this will be a shock to many families after not having a lunch bill for a couple of years.

I also feel it will be a shock for our lunch program as well. This is a very time-consuming program in regards to keeping track of lunch balances and getting families to pay their bills. I am also very concerned about the prices of supplies for meals. As you all know, inflation and gas prices are going to cause continued price increases.

Recommended Prices:
Elementary Breakfast at $1.50. It was $1.40 previously.
7-12 Breakfast at $1.65. Same price.
Elementary Lunch at $2.90. It was $2.85.
7-12 Lunch at $3.15. It was $3.10.

Recommended Motion(s): Motion to set the following prices for breakfast and lunch: K-6 breakfast at $1.50 and lunch at $2.90 and 7-12 breakfast at $1.65 and lunch at $3.15. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.

7.3. Review, Consider, and Take All Necessary Action on Interlocal Contract for Enrichment Activities Through the Southeast Nebraska Regional Program (Deaf or Hard of Hearing Services)

More Information: This is an annual item. Approving this interlocal agreement allows us to receive services from this program for students that need assistance with hearing issues. A copy of the agreement is attached.

Recommended Motion(s): Motion to approve the interlocal agreement with the Southeast Nebraska Regional Program/ESU 18 for services for deaf and hard of hearing students. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.

7.4. Review, Consider, and Take All Necessary Action on a 2022-23 Temporary One-Year Teaching Contract for Sandi Snyder – Middle School Math

More Information: Sandi is a retired teacher that we used as a substitute this past year. Sandi most recently taught at Shickley - 1992 to 2021. She has her masters in teaching middle level mathematics. We are excited Sandi has agreed to work at MPS.

Recommended Motion(s): Motion to approve a one year contract with Sandi Snyder for Middle School Math. Passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Closed/Executive Session for 1) the protection of the public interest, or 2) the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and/or the individual has not requested a public meeting. When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.

The Board President will restate the reason for Closed/Executive Session after the motion has been acted on.
