February 9, 2015 at 8:30 PM - Board of Education Regular Meeting

This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution.  A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office.  Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting.  The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary.

Information concerning the Open Meeting Law, Chapter 84, Article 14 of Nebraska State Statutes, is posted on the bulletin board in the back of the meeting room.

This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. Thank you for your participation.

1. $1,408 to AMSAN is for paper products for restrooms and cleaning supplies.  Just pointing this out as a reminder.  They are generally on each month's list but wanted to remind everyone what we purchase from them.
2. $10,000 to Cheever Construction is our last payment on the High School Project.  This is the amount we have been holding until items were completed to Carlson West Provondra's expectations.
3. $265 to Clay Elwell Educational Services is for an FFA and Ag class online program that includes curriculum and a record keeping program.  Just pointed it out as it is a different name.
4. $13,646 to Integrated Controls is for the HS HVAC updates to the north gym and the automation of the controls system in most of the building - other than middle school area.
5. $645 to Thawte is for a 4-year contract for a security system on our PowerSchool (student information program) server.  I am pointing this out due to the name and only paying this bill once every 4 years.

This is a yearly item for the Board.

I feel we can leave the fee at the current rate: $215 for Milford resident/option students and $250 for students that live out of the District and are not option students.  Conference average is $240.

The program has been in the black the past five years.  I feel this fee will cover any increased fuel prices that occur this summer or repairs needed to the vehicle.

1. A cart of 30 iPads and keyboards at the high school.  This is ultimately replacing our East lab at the high school.  They are old computers and we just cannot do much with them any longer as far as updates.  The cost for the iPads, keyboards, cart, and AppleCare is approxiamately $25,500.
2. 15 additional PC laptops to complete the cart we have in the Industrial Arts area.  These are also used by our business department.  We currently have 10 on a cart which means students have to share and only one class can use at a time.  We would like to fill the cart to provide more opportunities for students and staff.  We are looking at $11,500 - $12,000 for this purchase.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Closed/Executive Session for 1) the protection of the public interest, or 2) the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and/or the individual has not requested a public meeting. When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.

The Board President will restate the reason for Closed/Executive Session after the motion has been acted on.
