October 12, 2015 at 7:45 PM - Board of Education Regular Meeting

This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution.  A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office.  Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting.  The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary.

Information concerning the Open Meeting Law, Chapter 84, Article 14 of Nebraska State Statutes, is posted on the bulletin board in the back of the meeting room.

This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. Thank you for your participation.

Just a few to point out:

1. $1,420 to Band Shoppe is mainly for marching band uniform replacements/updates.
2. $1,415 to Bob's Service - most of this was for replacing the motor on our unit that picks up grass behind our JD mower.
3. $2,244 to Crosier is for expenses related to our FFA's national convention/contest trips.
4. $2,200 to Directions EAP is our yearly fee for our employee assistance program.
5. $4,000 to ESU 4 is for our membership in our internet/distance learning consortium.
6. Payments to Julie Ficke, Noah Johnson, Calyn Mowinkel are for summer work these students performed - cleaning computers, laptops, iPads and making software updates.
7. $3,138 to Kremer's is for installation costs associated with installing new football field scoreboard and the updating of the electrical system to it.
8. $2,238 to KSB School Law is for student issues and Karen's presentations for our students on digital citizenship.
9. $7,173 to Oswald Electric is for a whole host of electrical updates from this summer and early fall.
10. $2,583 of the $2,893 Quill bill is for the replacement of 4 classroom projectors that quit working.
11. $792 to School Specialty is for new storage cabinets in the art room that was torn apart due to the summer mud jacking project.

I believe the rest are "normal" summer items or fall items.  We have numerous general supply bills that are yearly items.  Please call or email if you have questions.

K-6 is at 357 (3 more than last month)

7-8 is at 101 (1 less than last month)

9-12 is at 231 (same as last month)

K-12 is at 689 (2 more than last month)

The 2nd grade class is our largest at 63

The 5th grade class is our smallest at 37

Our average class size is 57.4

It is time to renew our football agreement with the NSAA and Dorchester Schools.

At this time, I recommend renewing the agreement.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Closed/Executive Session for 1) the protection of the public interest, or 2) the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and/or the individual has not requested a public meeting. When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.

The Board President will restate the reason for Closed/Executive Session after the motion has been acted on.
