1. Call to Order & Pledge of Allegiance
Rationale:
The mission of Gothenburg Public Schools, in partnership with the entire community, is to prepare all students within a positive, innovative, learning environment to become lifelong learners in the 21st century. A copy of the open meetings law is posted on the wall of the Board Room and is available to the public. |
2. Approve the Agenda and Excuse Absent Board Members
Rationale:
The Board reserves the right to rearrange the order of items as needed. Mr. Hudson will not be available. |

4.1.1. Consider resignations of certificated staff (Executive Session Possible.)
Rationale:
Board Policy 4112 Release from Contract, states that "the action on a release from contract received after April 15th each year shall be discretionary with the Board. The earlier the request for release is submitted, the greater will be the likelihood of the release being granted. Requests for release received by the Superintendent after June 1st will ordinarily not be granted. Releases may be made subject to the conditions, including liquidated damages, payment of costs of securing a replacement, and the condition that a suitable replacement be secured." A resignation from Mr. Marcus Messersmith has been received. Mr. Messersmith has served in the district as a physical education teacher this past year. He is relocating to eastern Nebraska to be located closer to family. The administration has determined that a suitable replacement has been found and contract will be presented for approval in the next agenda item. Therefore, it is recommended that the resignation of Mr. Marcus Messersmith be approved.

4.1.2. Consider contracts for certificated staff for the 2016-17 school year.

Rationale:
Mrs. Ligia Peterson has agreed to return for the following school year to give the district a better opportunity to find a replacement to teach Spanish as no applications were received. Mr. Nick Miller has has been offered a contract to teach within the Physical Education and Social Sciences Departments for the 2016-17 school year. Mr. Miller will also assume the role as Head Girls Basketball Coach Mr. Miller has been serving as an assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, for the past three years. He completed his student teaching at West High School in Sioux City, Iowa and completed an internship working with at-risk students at Boys Town in Omaha.
