Rationale:
The mission of Gothenburg Public Schools is to prepare all students to become lifelong learners within a positive and innovative learning environment. A copy of the open meetings law is posted on the wall of the Board Room and is available to the public. |

4.1. Action Items

4.1.1. Consider resignation of certificated staff.
Rationale:
Mr. Chris Lecher has submitted his resignation at the end of the 2016-17 school year to accept a position at Lyons-Decatur Schools where he will serve as Principal. Mrs. Christy Lecher has submitted her resignation at the end of the 2016-17 school year as she will join her husband as he moves into his new role. The Lechers resignations were received on April 14th. Mr. Dan Jensen has submitted his resignation at the end of the 2016-17 school year to accept a position at Maxwell High School where he will serve as Principal. Mr. Jensen's resignation was received on April 18th. Per Board Policy 4112, Release from Contract, release from contract after April 15th is at the board's discretion with the primary consideration being the finding of a suitable replacement. An appropriate reassignment of duties for a current staff member and the corresponding identification of a suitable replacement in this position have occurred. Therefore, it is recommended that the request for release be approved.

4.1.2. Consider initial contract(s) for certificated staff for the 2017-18 school year.

Rationale:
Mrs. Julie Rickertsen has been offered a position of middle school mathematics teacher for the 2017-18 school year. Mrs. Rickertsen received her degree from UNL and is a life-long resident. She has worked in the system in the past and currently helps with our track program. Mr. Scott Carlin has been offered the position of secondary science teacher for the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Carlin graduated from UNK in 2011 and has been teaching in the Kearney Catholic Schools for the past six years. Mr. Carlin will also serve as an assistant basketball coach. Mrs. Heather Linden has been offered the position of elementary teacher for the 2017-18 school year. Mrs. Linden received her undergraduate degree from Ashford University in San Diego and has been teaching in Lexington Public Schools for the past two years.

5. Next Meeting
Rationale:
Next Regular Meeting scheduled for May 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. A special meeting to consider a late resignation and approve a contract may be necessary in the next couple of weeks. Resignations after April 15th require the securing of a suitable replacement. Contracts and resignations must be approved by the board to be official. |
