Description:
Graduation Reminder
May 21st at 7:00PM, please be at the school no later than 6:45. Two-Year Warranty Walk The elementary school building team will be on site May 13th to complete the two-year warranty walk for the project. The two big items of discussion were: landscaping (grass areas, irrigation, and replacement of plants); Rocks falling off the walls; and door hardware attached to the closers. Memorial Hall HVAC The unit for Memorial Hall has been delivered. We are waiting for Empire to get the three-phase electricity to the building, then Comfort Air will finish installation. Superintendent Advisory Committee The April/May Superintendent Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting was held in Silverton on April 28/29th. Teacher Appreciation Week May 4th through May 8th — The district provided lunch for the building staff, and delivered a drink each teacher requested personally. I want to thank all the teachers personally for everything they do for the students, schools, and district. They work extremely hard, and we have the best staff we could ask for. District Key Replacement Fee I would like to add a fee to all keys checked out for lost keys. A fee of $50.00 seems fair for the time and materials to replace lost keys. Vacant Position in the hiring process

7.2.1.1. Bulldog Way update (STF3)
Description:
Nothing to Update for the month.
|
|
7.2.1.2. AG Shop/Secondary BEST Grant update (FAC1)
Description:
Project Budget
With the increase in some building materials since the completion of the BEST grant application, our budget at the beginning of the project is over significantly. The biggest hits were from concrete which doubled in cost and the cost of the HVAC units increased more than expected. The budget for the BEST grant included 7% additional for inflation costs along with 3-4% for contingency. At this point, there is approximately $115,000 remaining in the construction contingency and the 7% has been calculated into the numbers already. The team is looking at some alternative building options for some of the concrete areas, and looking at other areas to save a little to reduce the amount the budget is over. There is still a good amount of contingency remaining in the owners' budget if we can get groundwork and footings/foundations completed without large unexpected expenses. Update to Budget Concerns: The team was able to work through some pricing options and the budget has been reduced without noticeable changes to the project. The major change is less concrete with more asphalt for driving surfaces. AG Shop There are only a few items remaining to be cleaned out before the construction start date. Demolition is scheduled to begin June 20th, but may begin earlier since abatement does not need to be completed separately. A groundbreaking date has not been set. Admin Area Demolition of the admin area has increased, adding to the budget concerns to begin the project. Along with that increase, we had increases to the office entry door and transaction window. One area we need updated during the construction project is our fire alarm system, as many parts of the system are outdated, and we are struggling to find replacement parts. Next OAC There is an in-person OAC for the project on May 13th. Robert Rose will be the superintendent in charge of the project. Robert helped during construction on the elementary school. I am excited to have Robert returning for the Admin/AG shop project. Robert will be here on the 13th to begin planning for the start of construction on the Admin area on May 26th. |

11.2. High School Social Studies Curriculum purchase.
Description:
The Social Studies curriculum has been reviewed by the committee in the HS/MS and was presented for public viewing last week. Here a few highlights for the decision:
- While the TCI may be more comprehensible for younger students, the language is not academically challenging for grades higher than sixth grade. McGraw-Hill presents topics in a way that students can use relevant language to help them understand the topic while also challenging them. - McGraw-Hill's textbooks offer a variety of inclusive topics (Spread of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism vs. just one perspective) - The online tools consist of maps, diagrams, primary sources, and other tools that encourage inquiry-based learning, which are easy to access. - Really encourages considering multiple perspectives, making students consider both sides of events - Built-in checks for Understanding and other formative assessments within the textbook itself - Informative enough to be the bulk of the material, you can easily supplement with other smaller materials *25 books per class *20 digital licenses *6 year period *Teacher's manuals with the online teacher's license |
