In celebration of National Ag Week (March 21-27), the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is pleased to announce the winners of this year's annual poster contest. More than 1,700 students in grades 1-6 from all over the state entered NDA's annual contest by highlighting Nebraska agriculture, the state's number one industry.
NDA announces the winners of its annual poster contest during National Ag Week to highlight the diversity of agriculture and celebrate the food, feed and fuel that farmers and ranchers provide every day. Congratulations to Bellevue East teacher, Rebekah Sidzyik, for being selected to attend the NEH Summer Program "Heart Mountain, Wyoming, and the Japanese American Incarceration." This program will bring educators for grades 5-12 from around the country to Heart Mountain (virtually this year), one of the ten incarceration sites for Japanese Americans forced from the West Coast during World War II. Participants will learn about the Japanese American experience in the U.S., their forced removal and incarceration and the conditions that made it possible. They will examine the incarceration's cause, course, consequence and the long-term effect on the community. Participants will explore underlying histories and federal policies all set in a Wyoming landscape that saw similar struggles between white and native populations.

E.7. *BPS Operation Read 2021

The special edition Operation Read took place on April 29th in our BPS Elementary Libraries across the school district. Thanks to the great work of Deb Kendall and Kari Schroder for hosting this competition via Zoom and to the teachers/staff for supporting this opportunity for students in their buildings. Students who participated in Operation Read have read at least 4 out of the 10 Golden Sower Nominees and then practiced and studied to answer trivia questions about the books. A wonderful job by every student who participated. A special congratulations to the Twin Ridge Elementary team on their win this year, they will get to proudly display the Operation Read trophy at their school until next year's competition.
