Board Policy 302.02 adopted in December of 2014 states - On an annual basis before April 15th, the board will: conduct an evaluation of the superintendent, review of the superintendent’s contract and take action as to whether the contract will be extended. At the April meeting, the Board approved an extension to the April 15th date. Tonight, the board will consider the extension of the superintendent’s contract until June 30, 2018. The contract along with Nebraska Department of Education Form 20 are attached. For all other contract amendments, the board will take final action before June 15th unless there is an agreement to continue from both parties.

C.3. Teacher Negotiated Agreement

Nebraska law allows public school employees to organize and bargain collectively with school boards on the issue of salaries. An agreement has been reached and ratified by the Bellevue Education Association, the employee organization representing teachers, nurses, psychologists, and therapists.
The negotiated agreement with teachers adjusts the 2015-2016 salary for beginning teachers to $33,200 from the current beginning salary of $32,700. This represents a proposed total package increase of 1.90%. The increase is to cover:
Increased costs to the District for all groups listed above is as follows: Certificated staff (teachers, nurses, psychologists, therapists) $1,104,598. The current and proposed salary programs are attached. Also attached is the ratification notice from the Bellevue Education Association. Administrative Recommendation: The administration recommends the board approve the Teacher Negotiated Agreement as presented.

Over a two year period, a group of more than 40 Bellevue Public Schools’ educational professionals including teachers and administrators has been conducting a study of best practices in grading to support student learning. Nearly 300 Nebraska high school students recently received DECA awards at the 58th annual state conference in Lincoln. The top 250 Nebraska students who finished first, second or third in their events will challenge more than 18,000 other students from the United States, the U.S. territories, Canada, China, Germany, Mexico and Spain during the international competition in Orlando, Florida, to determine the world’s best marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship students. DECA competitive events were designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for career success in a wide array of professions. Over 900 Nebraska students participated in more than 45 competitive events, professional development seminars and elected state officers in March. Out of roughly 250 national qualifier positions Bellevue East and Bellevue West accounted for 71 of those qualifiers.
