2. Action Items
|
2.1. Discuss, consider, and take action to approve resignations
Rationale:
Approve due to extenuating circumstances: * Kristin Brommer--5th grade at Norfolk Middle School
Approval contingent upon finding suitable replacement: * Gregory Johnston--English at Norfolk Junior High * Lee Irvine -- AFS Instructor
Board Policy 4110 says: "It is the intent of the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education to assist an employee in his or her professional growth, professional advancement, and personal needs. To that end an employee under contract will be granted a release from his or her contract if the request is received on or before April 30. Unless extreme extenuating circumstances apply, a request for release from contract received after April 30 will only be granted after a suitable replacement has been found. The board of education reserves its right to contact the Nebraska Professional Practices Commission for those certificated personnel who may breach their contract obligations." |
2.2. Discuss, consider and take action to approve contracts

2.3. Discuss, consider and take action regarding Elementary Class Sizes
Rationale:
District recommended class size caps: Kindergarten: 25 per section Grades 1-4: 30 per section Kindergarten enrollment at Jefferson and Woodland Park are both at 53 students. Jefferson students will be bussed to Westside, so an overflow teacher will not be needed. However, it is not feasible to bus students from Woodland Park to Westside. We asked for voluntary transfers, but we have not received any. I am asking you to approve an overflow kindergarten teacher for WLP--IF we do not receive enough voluntary transfers to keep class sizes below the recommended cap. (The deadline is tomorrow and we have not received any.) We also have two third grade classes and one fourth grade class that are approaching the cap. I will continue to monitor these, but am not recommending overflow classrooms for those grade levels at this point.
Recommended Motion(s):
A motion to approve the hiring of an overflow kindergarten teacher for Woodland Park Elementary School--if we do not receive enough voluntary transfers to keep class sizes below the recommended cap passed with a motion by Board Member #1 and a second by Board Member #2.
