District ELL and Special Education teams will be meeting this week. Our special education leadership team will begin meeting monthly starting August 24th. Our high school ELL teachers worked on updating and organizing the ELL curriculum over the summer. I will be attending the NASES fall conference on September 1st and 2nd. I am happy to report that we met the NDE- Targeted Improvement Plan goal for Norfolk Public Schools. Thursday, August 4th, para education staff participated in the ESU 8 paraprofessional training for the 2022-2023 school year. Title VI- Native American school supplies are available for pick up for our families. Please contact our Native American Home/School Liaison for more information. |
5.4. Student Services Report
Rationale:
In July, I met with our athletic directors, our head of Maintenance, representatives from Norfolk PD and Fire, and the Region 11 Emergency Manager. Together we developed Risk Management plans for each of our school and city facilities where we host fall activities and sporting events. These plans will be shared with coaches and site supervisors so we are prepared to react in the event of an emergency at each of these facilities. We will continue these meetings prior to Winter and Spring activities. All teachers are back in the district today preparing for the start of our 2022/23 school year. Students have been divided into groups A or B. Group A will attend school on Thursday the 11th and Group B will attend on Friday the 12th. All students, Groups A and B, will attend together starting on Monday the 15th. Starting school in this manner provides staff with smaller class sizes allowing them to better build relationships with their students and helps the students feel more comfortable. |
