Rationale:   

It is the vision of the Norfolk Public Schools to actively engage all students in learning
through a relevant and comprehensive standards-based curriculum that integrates
 21st century skills, tools, context, and assessments.
  

    • Goal #1:  All students will succeed at each grade level and graduate from high school well-prepared for a variety of post-secondary pursuits.

    • Goal #2:  All students will feel connected with the school and the learning process.

    • Goal #3:  District resources, programs, and departments will be aligned to attain high levels of student achievement and instructional excellence.

    • Goal #4:  The community will be engaged to support high levels of student achievement.

        ASSOCIATE SUPERINTENDENT OF STUDENT SERVICES

         

        • Fall “Parent Teacher Conferences” are scheduled for the week of October 19th-22nd. Our First Quarter of the 2009-2010 school year is complete on Friday, October 16th.
        • At our 10/06 Student Health Committee meeting, Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department informed us that Norfolk may be receiving some course of vaccine for H1N1 during the week of October 19th.  We will be notified which schools will be receiving the vaccine and schools will proceed according to the Public Health Department’s directions.
        • The report on our” Pre-K Program Progress”- as required by Rule # 11 has been completed, signed and sent into the Department of Education.
        • Sixty-three (63) 4th and 5th grade students and sponsors from NPS attended a “Leadership Conference” at Wayne State College on Wednesday, October 7th.  This year’s conference will focus on recycling “Going Green.”  This conference is sponsored by Region III Elementary Principals and the Wayne State College School of Education and Counseling.
        • On October 21st NPS 5th grade students will be attending a play by the Omaha Theater entitled “Laura Ingles Wilder.”  The presentation is sponsored by the Norfolk Arts Center.  Another play will be presented in the spring for our first graders.
        • There are several NPS Fine Arts activities on our schedule this month that you might want to attend:

                      o   October 13th is the Senior High Fall Concert     
                      o   October 27th is the Fall Orchestra Concert 
                      o   October 24th is the state Band Masters Marching Band Festival         

        • Maintenance’s building and grounds have completed many of their fall projects and are focusing on winter readiness preparations.
