October 10, 2022 at 5:30 PM - Regular Monthly Meeting of the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education

Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to recognize the KHS boys' soccer team for being honored with the National Team Academic Awards from the United Soccer Coaches' Association.

Rationale:  Board meetings may have on the agenda, a specific time entitled Public Participation/Comment, during which patrons may address the Board on matters of general concern.  No public body shall require members of the public to identify themselves as a condition for admission to the meeting, nor shall such body require that the name of any members of the public be placed on the agenda prior to such meeting in order to speak about items on the agenda.  Patrons wishing to address the Board during the Public Participation/Comment will be allowed up to five (5) minutes per speaker to express their view.  Public Participation/Comment may not exceed sixty (60) total minutes.  The Board-imposed time limits may be extended by a majority vote of the Board, following a motion to do so.  Board action may not be taken on matters discussed during the Public Participation/Comment, unless the matter specifically appears on the prepared agenda.  Board of Education members will refrain from expressing personal opinions during Public Participation/Comment.

Any members of the public desiring to address the body shall be required to sign in with the recording secretary prior to the start of the meeting and identify himself or herself, including an address, phone number, and name of any organization represented by such person, unless the address and phone number requirement is waived to protect the security of the individual.

Rationale:  Mrs. Gifford and Mr. Brandt will report on the topics and sessions at the September 21, 2022 NASB Fall Membership Meeting in Kearney.

Rationale:  The KHS Theater Boosters have submitted their annual self-audit report for the 2021-2022 school year, for Board of Education consideration and acceptance.

Rationale:  The Meadowlark School PAC has presented its annual self-audit report for the 2021-2022 school year, for Board of Education consideration and acceptance.

Rationale:  Nebraska Revised Statute 79.760.01 requires the Nebraska State Board of Education to adopt measurable academic content standards in the subject areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The statute requires the State Board to review and update the standards every seven years.  On September 2, 2022 Nebraska's College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics were approved and are now ready for local adoption by the Board of Education.

Rationale:  We are required to pass a resolution to set the property tax requests for the four Kearney Public Schools budgets that are supported by tax dollars, for the 2022-2023 school year.

Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to delete the current Policy 7220.1 on the Construction Management at Risk Method of Delivery and replace it with the new Policy 7220.1.

Rationale:  The Board of Education will consider and approve the appointment of Drew Blessing to represent the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education at the 2022 NASB Delegate Assembly.

Rationale:  We will require a closed session at the conclusion of the October 10, 2022 Board of Education meeting for the purpose of discussing teacher negotiations; and personnel matters to prevent needless injury to the reputation of the person, and if the person has not requested a hearing.
