Rationale: 

Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings:

BOE Policy/Regulation 8346 outlines the parameters of public participation at Board meetings concerning items on the agenda as well as those not on the agenda.  A copy of this policy is available in the Superintendent’s office and at each monthly Board meeting.

Rationale:  Mr. Boettcher would like you to read page 52 letter h visible body piercing (other than ears).  We have had to deal with nose piercings.  Whatever you decide we will uphold.

Rationale:  In the past we have had a Certified (Teacher) and a Classified (all other staff) handbook.  Using our lawyers template and suggestion we have combined and have one handbook that have sections that cover all staff, certified, and classified staff.  It is very thorough.

Pages 5-6: Activity Day Attendance

1. Changes
   1. Excessive absences will cause a student to be ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities; and students who have 4 or more unexcused absences in a semester of participation will be ineligible to participate in extracurricular activity contests or performances.
2. The rest of the highlighted areas is what we are currently doing.

1. Item G - Students who leave the dance will not be readmitted - This item was not currently in our handbook, but it is what we have been following

1. This is new, and just spells out who is allowed as well as appropriate attire for the Banquet and Dance for Prom.

1. This item is new and was in the policies suggested by the lawyer

1. This just spells out what we have been doing, but is new to the handbook.

Page 11: Fundraising

1. Requires the Superintendent’s permission for use of mascot when it is being used in a fundraiser (not something we normally do).

1. We haven’t been doing the highlighted section for about 3 or more years, if we are going to do this again we will keep it, but otherwise we need to take the highlighted section out.

Page 15: Mascot

1. This is new as it states that the school mascot cannot be used for non-school sponsored purposes unless approved by the superintendent or superintendent’s designee.  This is fine just something that is new.

Page 16: Practices - Eligibility to practice

1. Item 2 states that in order to practice students need to provide proof of insurance to the main office.  This was a suggestion of the lawyers in their handbook, but not something we are currently doing.

1. Need to choose one:
   1. Option A - Calendar Year - Which would include all months of the year including summer activities
   2. Option B - School Year - Only happens during the school year
   3. Option C - Activity Season - Only happens during that particular season
2. It is important to note that for Homecoming and Prom royalty selection you are disqualified under our current policy for any law violation that has occurred within 24 months leading up to your eligibility for royalty.  Therefore, if you get an MIP the summer of you Junior year you would be ineligible for royalty honors during your senior year.  Thus I feel if you can become ineligible for this then shouldn’t we consider the same for all activities? 

Pages 30-37: Discipline

1. Need to Choose one:
   1. Option A is the New Policy and basically leaves the terms of an activity suspension up to the administration and/or coaches.  Basically, allows the administration to take each violation on a case by case basis, and determine necessary discipline for the offense.
   2. Option B is what we are currently doing, but still leaves everything other than Drug and Alcohol offenses to the discretion of the Administration.  So yes, under our current policy a student who is a Girls Basketball player is repeatedly violating school rules may be held from participating in basketball games.  The main difference between Option A and B is that fact that the terms of the suspension are left to the administration in Option A for EVERYTHING, but under Option B are spelled out for Drugs, Alcohol and Steroids.

3. Option A - A student participating in activities may not possess, use or be at parties in the presence of alcohol, illicit drugs, or controlled substances at any time during the calendar year
4. Option B - A student participating in activities may not possess, use or be at parties in the presence of alcohol, illicit drugs, or controlled substances at any time during the school term
5. Option C - A student participating in activities may not possess, use or be at parties in the presence of alcohol, illicit drugs, or controlled substances at any time during the activity season
6. This form basically is acknowledgement that I understand the rules set forth in the handbook, and understand that if I am caught at a party I know that I will get some form of discipline from Extra-Curricular Activities (Including but not limited to Sports, FCCLA, FFA, etc.)

Rationale:  Savings per month is $755.82.  or Annually $9,069.84

Current lease payment is $1,878  plus cost of toner etc.
New lease payment will bwe $1,582 plus cost of toner etc.
