Rationale: 

Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings:

BOE Policy/Regulation 8346 outlines the parameters of public participation at Board meetings concerning items on the agenda as well as those not on the agenda.  A copy of this policy is available in the Superintendent’s office and at each monthly Board meeting.

Rationale:  Each year the Franklin Teachers Association requests to be recognized as the official bargaining agent for the teachers.  This request for recognition for the 2015-16 contract year.

Rationale:  A letter requesting support is attached to this agenda item.

Rationale:  A photographer from the yearbook staff will be by to take your picture on Monday night at the board meeting.

Rationale:  The 2013 Audit will be presented and discussed.

Rationale:  The materials for evaluation the superintendent (current policy on evaluation, current policy, and current adopted evaluation instrument) are attached.  According to current policy, rehiring and compensation are to be considered at the regular December meeting.

Board of Education

1. Academic Information

• Book Study Update – How to Grade for Learning – We are now through Chapter 3.If you are following along, we plan to be through Chapter 5 by December’s Board Meeting.
• Plato Learning for Access Period – Pilot that we are going through with our “intensive groups” in Math

2. Activity Information

• Fall Sports have concluded, and Winter Sports can begin practice next Monday.
• Information from the NSIAAA Convention that I attended November 9-11.More information at the meeting.
• Conference AD Meeting will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 pm in Blue Hill
• I am sending Mr. Hoffman and Miss Roether with 3 girls and 3 boys to Grand Island for the NCA Sportsmanship Summit on Tuesday, November 9^th.

4. Other Information

• I will be attending the Jim Knight Training in Kearney the next two days with Mrs. Kahrs.

Rationale:  State Aid is recalculated each year after data from the most recent school year is finalized and updated figures can be obtained.  This information is used to calculate each district’s "prior year correction."  Which means that state aid for the 2014-15 school year will either be positively or negatively adjusted.  The prior year correction for Franklin Public Schools will be a "positive adjustment" in the amount of $6864.

Rationale:  During the month of November, we are hosting a worker from ResCare Workforce Services.  ResCare helps job seekers through unpaid work experiences.  We have a worker placed in the kitchen and custodial area.  This helps the worker earn work experience and provides the school district with free labor.  I'm also continue to explore working with them to understand and possibly make placements in the ON the Job (OJT) program and Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program (WOTC).  These programs provide financial incentives such as paying employees salaries for their first 6-months of employment and being able to earn a tax credit of up to approximately $10,000.

Rationale:  State School Board Convention will be held on November 20-22 this year.  I will need to know who plans to use school transportation and who plans to drive separately.
