First reading of policy JHCDD Administration of Opioid Antagonist
Rationale:
I am asking for the School Board to consider revising the current "Administration of Opioid Antagonist" policy. I would like to eliminate "LOCKED CABINET" and replace with "SECURE". Currently the Narcan is stored in a locked cabinet in my office and in a locked cabinet in the front office. The keys for these cabinets are kept only by a select number of staff. If the Narcan is stored in a locked cabinet then staff will need to find the person with the key to access the med which could waste valuable time. I also do not want all staff to have a key to the cabinet in my office because many meds are kept in this cabinet which I am ultimately responsible for. I would recommend the narcan be stored in a secure location which would be in an unlocked yet secure location in the front office and in an unlocked/secure location in my office. I would like the policy to read secure and not a specific location just in case in the future, it is determined that a better location would be more suitable. I would then notify all staff where the Narcan will be located.
I have attached the policy with the words highlighted that I would suggest being removed and replaced with the word in blue.
