Description:
Our presenter, Monica Williams, provided the following information for you to consider prior to the Board Meeting on Friday, and asks that you try one of the Implicit Association Tests for your own understanding prior to her presentation.
The Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures attitudes and beliefs that people may be unwilling or unable to report. The IAT may be especially interesting if it shows that you have an implicit attitude that you did not know about. For example, you may believe that women and men should be equally associated with science, but your automatic associations could show that you (like many others) associate men with science more than you associate women with science. Here is the link to the Harvard Implicit Association Test: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html |

The Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) for Longitudinal Growth met on August 31 from 1-4pm via Zoom. The meeting chairs were Ryan Marks, Marie Huchton, and Aislinn Wales. Discussion items were Accountability Updates and Higher Bar Sub-indicators. I'd be happy to provide the slide deck for anyone interested. TAP will meet next October 5 from 1-4pm. |
12)F. CHSAA Board of Directors
Description:
CHSAA held its annual Board Retreat on August 3-5, 2023. The Board worked with staff to strategize and prioritize for the coming school year and beyond. Some issues of note are:
1) A motion to institute a basketball shot clock. This will be revisited with a possible resolution to the Legislative Council in January 2024. 2) A greater emphasis on inclusion for CHSAA moving forward. 3) A successful initiative to revitalize the CHSAA Foundation. 4) Commissioner Mike Krueger will be presenting with Stacey Zis, and Harry Waterman from BVSD, at the CASB Annual Convention. The next Board meeting is October 4, 2023. |
12)G. Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC)
Description:
The CSSRC Advisory Board met in early August, the focus of which was the discussion of the newly formed Office of School Safety (OSS), which was enabled in Senate Bill 23-241. Christine Harms, former Executive Director of the CSSRC, was hired as the director of the new OSS. I am very happy to report that this office is getting up and running much more efficiently than the Department of Early Childhood. The creation of the OSS will allow for more positions to help with school safety related grants, training, a newly formed crisis response unit to assist schools in responding to a crisis or emergency, as well as a youth violence protection grant program. The school access for emergency response grant program (SAFER) will be transferred from the division of homeland security to the OSS. The board meets again in early October.
