8. Discussion Items
|
|
8.1. Discuss plans for reopening school in the fall.
Discussion:
NRCSA's Reopening Committees [NRCSA = Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association]: At the beginning of June, over 100 Superintendents and ESU Administrators have committed to helping develop ideas for use in developing a school district's reopening plan for the coming school year. The volunteers were divided up into eight sub-committees, each tackling a different topic that needs to be addressed in considering reopening. The sub-committees are: Transportation, SPED/504, Instruction/Class Size, Food Services, Custodial/Health, Activities, Personnel, and Calendar/Logistics. Each committee is meeting at a set time/day each week during June. Mr. Schrunk served on "Food Services" and "Custodial/Health". The intent was for each school district to have plans ready to present to local school boards at July board of education meetings. At this time, Dorchester Public School is setting plans in place for reopening school in the fall. Our scheduled first day of school is Wednesday, August 19. Our 2020-2021 calendar can be found on our website (dorchesterschool.org). Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is always a priority. We will follow the directed health guidelines in place. Our plans will allow us to adjust according to any health concerns ("risk dial") so we can continue educating our students. |
|
8.2. Discuss opening the facilities back up to the public.
Discussion:
Playground = Has been closed to the public since March. Recommendation is to open back up to the public mid-July.
Gym = The small gym has been used in the past (before COVID) by patrons for volleyball or basketball. Are we ready to open back up to patrons as early as mid-July? The Board discussed the need to focus on opening the playground and/or school for our children. Outside activities will not be held in the school at this time. The playground will be opened with a posting of the risks. |
