1. Call to Order and Announce Open Meetings Act Verification
Discussion:
The meeting was called to order by President Steve Vyhnalek at 8:00 pm. Superintendent Schrunk led all in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Discussion:
Carol Schnell was excused due to illness. Also present are Superintendent Daryl Schrunk, Principal Jake Wiese and Linda Woolsey.

3. Receive Visitors and Announce Open Forum for Public Comment
Discussion:
Visitors present are Craig and Tiffany Bergmeyer, Travis and Rebecca Fuller, Matt Smith and Vanessa Willison.

4. Request for Change of Agenda
Discussion:
Due to visitors, the agenda was changed to move 8.4 - Review "Return to School" plan as the first agenda item.

7.1. Principal's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Wiese presented information on 12th grade ACT testing done on September 22nd, IEP meetings Sept. 23-25, first Principal/Mentee meeting on September 23rd and Homecoming events and dance. A Professional Development Day was held on October 1st with Megan Hammer from ESU6. Formal evaluations started September 28th. Parent Teacher Conferences were held in September with 73% attendance. Upcoming events include ESU6 Reading Coaching with Heidi Farmer October 15th, CRC Volleyball Tournament Oct. 17-20, End of Quarter 1 on October 23rd, Volleyball Sub-District October 26-27, Excellence Rally and 7-12 Recognition on October 30 and first round of football playoffs October 30th.

7.2. Superintendent's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk reminded the board the negotiations committee will meet before November 1st. ESU6 will host a Senators' Panel. NASB Fall Conference will be held November 18-20. Daryl, Kelli Schweitzer and Shelly Lehr will be attending. Future facility plans may include Kindergarten and 1st grade carpet tile replacement, scupper inspection and possible runway for the long jump pit. Mr. Schrunk informed the board of the distribution of the Chromebooks purchased from the grant from the Nebraska Community Foundation with the Dorchester Foundation.

8.1. Discuss Evaluation of Superintendent.
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk distributed evaluation forms to board members.

8.2. Discuss Superintendent Vacation Leave (in accordance with Contract of Superintendent Employment = Saline County School District 76-0044 a.k.a. Dorchester Public School.)
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk reviewed his vacation time for 2020-2021.

8.3. Review Board of Education Policies #5048-5051.
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk reviewed policy #5048 - Self-Management of Diabetes or Asthma or Anaphylaxis, #5048 - Firearms and Weapons, #5050 - Home Schools and #5051 - Eye Exams. No changes were necessary.

8.4. Review "Return to School" plan (protocols in place, risk dial, fall activities), current status of cases, and future plans to continue in-person learning as well as winter extra-curricular activities and beyond.

DPS has not had any COVID exposure within the school. To combat the spread of the coronavirus, we have purchased additional tables for lunch, assigned seating in classrooms and lunch, etc. On Monday, October 12th all students, staff and teachers are required to wear face masks due to the new mandates to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Mr. Schrunk and Mr. Wiese talked with all classes on Friday, October 9th about the change. There are changes to activities attendance (ie: volleyball, football, speech). Winter sports activities may look different. Visitors shared comments on how youth basketball and wrestling may be affected. They shared agreement with the direction Mr. Schrunk has gone with the plan. |
