1. Call to Order and Announce Open Meetings Act Verification
Discussion:
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm by President Steve Vyhnalek with all board members in attendance. President Vyhnalek confirmed the advance notice to the public of the meeting and agenda. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Also present are Superintendent Daryl Schrunk, Principal Jake Wiese and Linda Woolsey.

3. Receive Visitors and Announce Open Forum for Public Comment
Discussion:
No visitors present.

4. Request for Change of Agenda
Discussion:
In order to complete agenda items before going into closed session, Item 8.5 Discuss Policy #4099-Early Retirement Incentive Program will be moved to the last item for the evening.

Mr. Schrunk reviewed the September financial report and the balance of individual funds.

7.1. Principal's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Wiese presented information on recent school activities and upcoming teacher and administrative PD meetings. Grandparents Day was well attended on September 30th. The Dorchester Legion participated in the Adopt-A-Door program on October 3rd. The Edgenuity Program has begun for JH reading/math interventions. Students with 1 or more Fs or 2 or more Ds are scheduled for ASI (Academic Support Intervention) time on Friday afternoons. Students have been getting their work completed before they need to attend ASI, so the program is working. Upcoming events are: Parent/Teacher Conferences on 10/13; Preschool Advisory Meeting on 10/18; K-6 Reading Coach with Heidi Farmer on 10/19; Quarter 1 ends on 10/21; Red Ribbon Week is the week of 10/24; Excellence and Secondary Rallies on 10/28; School Lunch Week of 10/31 and K-6 PD meeting is 11/7. Janet (Uher) Schrick will present her program on the effects of drug and alcohol addiction on 11/17.

7.2. Superintendent's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk reminded the Negotiation Committee about upcoming meetings for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Schrunk shared some information on possible upgrades to the football field with new crow's nest, bleachers, scoreboard, and sprinklers. There will be a Senators' Panel at ESU6 in Milford. Date to be announced later. The NASB Conference will be held November 16-18 in Lincoln. Mr. Schrunk and board members, Kelli Schweitzer and Shelly Lehr will be attending.

8.1. Discuss Evaluation of Superintendent.
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk distributed several sheets with his goals and space for evaluation. They will be reviewed at the November board meeting.

8.2. Discuss Superintendent Vacation Leave (in accordance with Contract of Superintendent Employment = Saline County School District 76-0044 a.k.a. Dorchester Public School.)
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk shared his vacation and sick days for the school year.

8.3. Review Board of Education Policies #4012-4015 and #4017-#4022.
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk reviewed policies #4012-Staff Internet and Computer Use; #4013-Grievance Procedure; #4014-Employment-Related Sexual Harassment; #4015-Employment of Board Members; #4017-Relations with Employee Collecting Bargaining Associations; #4018-Corporal Punishment; #4019-Workplace Injury Prevention and Safety Committee; #4020-Certification; and #4021-Professional Ethics; #4022-Teachers' Rights and Responsibilities. No changes are necessary at this time.

8.4. Discuss future plans for the crow's nest.
Discussion:
Mr. Schrunk suggested the next steps is to review possible plans with the Village of Dorchester. DPS has some ideas for what we would like to have. The Building & Grounds Committee may be involved with this.

Discussion:
This action item moved to #11 Closed Session.

Discussion:
Marvin Barlow has 5 years coaching experience in wrestling. With boys and girls meets occurring on the same day, an assistant coach is necessary.

Discussion:
It was decided to move into closed session for the discussion of Policy #4099-Early Retirement Incentive Program. Closed session is necessary for the strategy session with respect to negotiations/collective bargaining clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest or for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual in compliance with the law.
After coming out of Closed Session, it was decided to move this item as an action item to the November agenda. |
