April 15, 2025 at 7:30 PM - Board of Education Regular Monthly Meeting

Discussion:  President Lutkemeier opened the meeting at 7:30 pm.  The meeting notice was advertised in the April 3rd publication of the Webster County Sun.  "The Open Meetings Act" poster was displayed in the meeting room.

Discussion:  Jennifer Karr was a guest in attendance.  No comments were offered.

Discussion:  Mr. Bauer reported:

1. Accreditation Visit was last Tuesday the 8th. It went well. We have a few minor adjustments to make and need to get NDE a few more board policies, but we should have if finalized in the next week.

2. Today was day 62 of the Legislative session. Day #90 is June 9th.

3. Van updates are going to need to be happening the next three years. I will explain how I would like to proceed.

4. 2010 Bus Turbo is out - Do we want to repair? It is pre DEF. I have reached out to Jamie to see if he thinks 2010 will get added to the grant portal potentially next year.

5. We have partners for the turf tank. We are making the purchase and will figure out the billing with the other two schools and get something set up for how we will partner.

JAG Program Update:  Financed by a private donor; the Sherwood Foundation invests in Nebraska and Silver Lake was one of a handful chosen for the JAG program.  Cost to school $0 for first 2 years and $10,000 each year following.

Discussion:  Andrea Curlo has resigned from her position as Ag Teacher and Co-FFA Advisor.  
Resignation Letter is attached. 

Discussion:  The resignation of Andrea Curlo left an Ag opening.  Recommendation to hire Rebecca Jones as the 7-12 Ag Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. 

Discussion:  Attached is the quote for the Grasshopper with the baggage setup.  They are giving us $5,000 on the Grasshopper in Roseland.  We would then move the Mower in Bladen up to Roseland.

Discussion:  The attached list has the students who are currently on track to graduate from Silver Lake Public Schools in 2025.

Discussion:  Each year the Silver Lake Board of Education needs to appoint a Title 1 representative.  This is our point of contact on federal grant applications, audits and all the things that can get a school in trouble if not completed.
If the Board President does not wish to take on the role, Mr. Bauer would be willing to serve in this capacity for another year.

Discussion:  Mr. Sluka and Mr. Jones have set the extra duty assignments for the 2025-26 school year.  See attached.
 

Discussion:  Approve Mr. Bauer trading in the Silver Mini-van and getting a newer mini van/suv.  I think we can get something nice somewhere in the neighborhood of $25,000.  Some discussion took place on running our school buses through the preventive maintenance service program provided by Cummins in Kearney over the summer.

Discussion:  The next regular board of education meeting is set for May 13th (Tues) at 7 pm in Bladen at the Elementary.
