June 12, 2017 at 7:00 PM - Board of Education Regular Meeting

This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution.  A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office.  Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting.  The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary.

Information concerning the Open Meeting Law, Chapter 84, Article 14 of Nebraska State Statutes, is posted on the bulletin board in the back of the meeting room.

This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. Thank you for your participation.

Items to Point Out:

1. Bond Fund is for fees.
2. There are a number of bills for the Forestry Grant.  These will be reimbursed through the grant and a grant through SCC for the shelter.  What is not reimbursed through the grants will be paid through the anonymous donation.
3. The Apple bills are for replacement of old iPads, laptops or desktop computers for staff.
4. $4,800 to Paper 101 is for our annual paper purchase through COOP.  
5. There are a few summer repairs already on here and some purchases for 17-18.

Administrative reports will take place at the meeting.  Mitch and Cameron have baseball games to attend so may not be present.

Couple of Items:

1. The Preliminary Plat for Camden Additions was approved.  It has a couple of more steps to go through if the developers continue with their plans.  This development is for 17 lots north of the ball fields.
2. State Aid was certified and we are losing $483,806.
3. Bus Drivers - we are short a half-time driver which could turn into a full-time position.  We have been advertising for two months.  Let me know if you have any ideas.
4. Short-term and Long-Term Planning - we will need to start discussing Board/District planning and the process the Board would like to use.

We have attached an enrollment report.  Obviously these numbers will change throughout the summer.  I find it interesting that right now we are predicting the K-6 enrollment to increase by 16 students and the 7-12 to decrease by 16 - so we are at the same number as we were in May!

But this will change the next two months.

The Building Committee met with Midwest Track and Fisher Track and listened to their presentations.  We did not make a decision regarding the project yet.  I will share more at the meeting.

I do have a donation that will cover the estimated bids for a new surface project.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Closed/Executive Session for 1) the protection of the public interest, or 2) the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and/or the individual has not requested a public meeting. When making a motion to enter into Closed/Executive Session, the member making the motion should be as specific as possible as to the reason(s) for executive session.

The Board President will restate the reason for Closed/Executive Session after the motion has been acted on.
