1. Milford Public Schools Board of Education Information
More Information:
Mission Statement - Milford Public Schools will prepare all students to be successful citizens: Our Mission is fulfilled when all students read with comprehension, speak and write clearly, compute accurately, reason logically, understand and appreciate the fine arts, apply suitable strategies and habits of mind to solve problems, utilize technology to communicate and to understand information and behave morally.
This agenda contains a list of subjects known at the time of its distribution. A copy of the agenda reflecting any changes will be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the District Office. Except for items of an emergency nature, the agenda shall not be altered later than twenty-four hours before the meeting. The Board reserves the right to alter the order of items, as it deems necessary. |

This is the public’s opportunity to speak to items on the agenda. This is also the public’s opportunity to speak to any topic concerning the school district – since it is not an agenda item the board cannot discuss or take action on the matter at this time. Future discussion can be requested as an agenda item. To be recognized, all participants must complete the Request to Address the Milford Board of Education Form. No complaints regarding specific staff members will be heard during a public meeting. The District has established separate procedures for complaints against individual employees. 4.1. Administrative Reports
Discussion:
Elementary Principal: Mrs. Hartman recognized elementary students and pointed out upcoming activities. She shared there are 16 Concordia practicum students working with teachers in the elementary building this semester. She also shared the Milford 4th graders have been invited to the Seward County Museum in Goehner in honor of Statehood Day.
Secondary Principal: Mr. Mowinkel recognized junior/senior high students and piont out upcoming activities. He shared that parent/teacher conferences have been changed to March 4 and 5. He also shared that there were 6 qualifiers for state wrestling. Assistant Secondary Principal: Mr. Soester explained Mattie speech at the Governor's CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) celebration. Director of Learning: Dr. Kubicek discusssed the science material review, curriculum documents for writing, upcoming state assessments, and a grant to supplement the work with the instructional model. Superintendent: Mr. Wingard included NASB's monthly update and legislative attachments for review. He discussed Driver's Education and priority statements/goals. He pointed out upcoming NASB trainings, NRCSA meetings, and future meetings. |

Mr. Wingard discussed property tax bills and LB 495 and LB 103. He shared and discussed spreadsheets and projections of state aid on LB 497. President Welsch also discussed property tax bills.

4.4. Elementary Construction Report
More Information:
Tru Built and their sub contractors are moving along on outside projects as the weather allows. The students and staff are spending a lot of time watching the progress!
Inside Work - Oswald Electric and Electronic Contracting will start the electrical and fire alarm system work soon. They plan on working from 4:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. or so while the students are not present. They may do some hallway work while school is in session. Things are moving right along.

Mr. Wingard updated the Board on the progress of the elementary construction and shared photos.

Discussion:
President Welsch discusssed the Nebraskan's United meeting he attended. He explained components of some of the legislative bills. He shared what he has learned through his visits with Senators and talked about what he is going to mention in his testimony in front of the revenue committee.

7.1. Review Current Option Enrollment Requests for 2019-20 School Year (no action)
More Information:
We are anticipating around 52 students for kindergarten next year. Obviously, this number goes up and down over the summer into next August. Generally, the number goes up. I feel we have room for the four option requests we have so far for the 2019-20 school year. All of the students on the list have siblings already attending MPS.
We will take official action at the March meeting. |
