7.3. Act on 2019-20 Breakfast/Lunch Prices
More Information:
Setting Meal Prices: The USDA reimbursement rates are adjusted annually to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index. Each school district must examine their paid meal prices on an annual basis. All districts are required to complete the USDA's Paid Lunch Equity (PLE) Tool on an annual basis. It does sound like we are not required to use the PLE this year, but strongly recommended to as it may be required again next year. Not sure why there is this one year change. The USDA formula looks at reimbursement for a free lunch plus the value of USDA donated foods (commodities) plus the certified menu reimbursement intended to cover the average cost of providing a student lunch.
Anyway, using the formula, it shows we should raise our lunch prices by 18 cents. When visiting with NDE they suggested we just do 10 cents this year and next to meet this recommendation. We just need to show that we are working on meeting the formula's recommendation. Current Prices Recommended Prices
Elementary Breakfast $1.40 $1.40
HS Breakfast $1.65 $1.65 Elementary Lunch $2.70 $2.80 HS Lunch $2.95 $3.05 Adult Lunch $3.65 $3.75 Milk/Juice $0.40 $0.40
