March 3, 2014 at 6:00 PM - Board of Education Special Meeting

Discussion:  President Schleif called the regular meeting to order at 6:00 PM and informed those in attendance that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room, then directed the pubic to its location.

Discussion:  Roberts, Sterup and Peterson summarized the Consolidation Committee meetings with Cross County Community Schools and Shelby-Rising City Public Schools. At the February 12, 2014 meeting with Cross County Community Schools the feasibility option A2 was discussed. This option would have all grades at the Cross County site and would combine all debts and levies. This is the only option that would provide the cost savings that the Cross County Board was looking for. Cooping wrestling will remain the same. Cooping softball is still a consideration. The February 25, 2014 meeting with Shelby-Rising City Public Schools and Osceola Public Schools consisted of a tour of Shelby-Rising City Schools facility in Shelby. No tour was taken at Rising City, but the facilities were described. Room available to accommodate students at both facilities seems to be an issue. Shelby's site could have an addition built, while the Rising City site seemed questionable for expansion. The Both the Osceola and Shelby-Rising City Committees did not think that any of the consolidation options were off the table. Shelby-Rising City Public Schools is in the process of studying their facility needs and the possibilities of doing something with Osceola would expand those options. The idea of cooping sports will be discussed by Shelby-Rising City Board as a whole in the near future.
