Graduation is Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 PM. Valedictorian is Ellen Dexter and the Salutatorian is Madison Stover. The seniors last day was May 8. Graduation practice is Friday, May 11. Staff will fix a breakfast for the seniors after practice on Friday. Peyton Taylor will be the Student Body President and the student representative on the board during the 2018-19 school year. Banquet season is coming to an end. We have many talented individuals in our building and in our community. Following are a few awards that were earned by our students. Fine Arts Banquet: Raymond Central Fine Arts Student of the Year-Brandon Unverferth, Lifetime Achievement in the Fine Arts-Ellen Dexter. Art: National Art Honor Society new members-Raine Rittscher, Claire Wilson, and Alexis Jeffres. Band Awards: John Phillip Sousa-Ellen Dexter & Brandon Unverferth; Outstanding Band Member-Brigit Shultz; Jazz Band Member of the Year-Maiya Miller; Louis Armstrong Jazz Award-Matthew Jackson. Results from JH invite at RC on April 30: Girls-1st 100 m dash 1st 4x100 m relay 6th 1600 m run, 2nd 200 m dash 5th 200 m dash, 2nd 200 hurdles 2nd 100 m hurdles 4th 400 m dash, 3rd long jump 2nd discus 2nd triple jump. Boys: 3rd 4x100 m relay, 1st and 3rd 1600 m run 2nd 200 m dash, 4th 400 m dash, 2nd and 3rd 800 m run 1st 100 m dash, 4th triple jump 2nd 110 hurdles, 1st and 2nd shot put 1st discus, 3rd 3200 m relay, 2nd and 3rd long jump. Austin Anderson broke the 1600 meter record by 8 seconds. Austin ran the 1600 meter run in 5:13.90. The girls 4x100 relay team broke the record set in 1986 (55.65). The team of Rachel Potter, Kiley Elkins, Makenna Gehle and Sierra Spring ran it in 55.63. Fine Arts Banquet was May 2nd with many different awards given out for numerous activity groups. A couple distinguished awards went to Student of the Year: Brandon Unverferth, and Lifetime Achievement: Ellen Dexter. NCPA academic all-state winners for the spring season include: Track - Amanda Gyhra, Matt Jackson, Maiya Miller; Band - Brandon Unverferth; Choir - Cheyenne Helbert. Baseball finished up their season with a loss to Wayne and a victory over Central City/Fullerton at the Seward invite. Regular season losses to Wahoo/BN/LL and Hastings finished out their regular season. In district play, the boys lost in the first round at Wahoo to Falls City. All-conference baseball selections from Branched Oak include Beau Sackett on the 2nd team and Mikey McCoy on the honorable mention squad. Thanks to the coaches, players, parents, and members from both RC and Malcolm for making this co-op a successful first year! Track has continued their busy season with the conference meet at Fort Calhoun on April 28th and our home invite which was postponed to Friday May 4th. Some results from conference include Rylee Haecker finishing 1st in the 800 and 2nd in the 1600, Lauren Prososki 3rd in the shot put, Chase Hall 5th in the 400, Matt Jackson 5th in the 800, Dylan Schweitzer 4th in the 110m hurdles, boys 4x100 3rd place, boys 4x800 5th place, Chase Hall 3rd in the high jump and Christian Schweitzer 4th in the shot put. Districts will be Thursday, May 10 at Fairbury with state Friday and Saturday, May 18-19 in Omaha. A big thanks to many teachers and staff members who helped time, run field events, scoring/announcing and other duties for the three meets we hosted this year! The athletic winter/spring sports banquet will take place in the commons on Tuesday, May 15 with a meal at 6:00 PM provided by the Athletic Booster Club and then awards to be presented around 6:30 PM. Submitted by Shelly Dostal, Elementary Principal at Valparaiso/K-6 Curriculum Director Assessment - State Testing (NSCAS) for English Language Arts (Grades 3-8), Math (grades 3-8), and Science (grades 5 & 8) has been completed. In addition, paper/pencil tests have been returned and alternate assessments processed. Results will not be released to districts until the fall. NDE plans to work this summer on various aspects of the testing. Some RC teachers will be involved with this process. School reports for achievement testing (NWEA MAP) will be submitted at the end of the school year. Assessment -DIBELS end of year testing (K-5) will be completed by May 11. Teachers will review data and make instructional decisions for next year based on the data. Professional Learning - The last early out of the year was on May 3. Staff used the time to complete a Multiple Intelligence Survey for learning purposes in the fall. They also spent time completing and finalizing curriculum validation and instructional maps for their subject areas. Planning for 2018-2019 -Visitation Day for prospective kindergarteners was held on Friday, April 20. Fifth graders spent the afternoon of April 25 at the High School. This transition time will assist students as they look forward to the next school year. Mr. Haecker, Mrs. Osten, and 6th grade teachers Mrs. Abby Spangler and Mr. Adison Kenning facilitated the orientation session for fifth graders from both buildings. We will have a "moving up" time on May 21 at the Valparaiso site when all K-4 students visit the next grade’s classroom. PTO - We are thankful for the diligent efforts throughout the year by the PTO to support our students and staff. PTO hosted an awesome family carnival night on April 13. Thank you especially to Krista Zobel and the numerous volunteers. Thank you to the parents for all the treats to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. PTO is selling KFOR Summer Fun Punch Tickets until the end of the school year. The PTO retains all proceeds from these $5 tickets. The PTO elected officers will remain the same for the 2018-19 school year. Officers include: President - Jennifer Schultz; Vice President - Maureen Brase-Houchin; Treasurer - Marcene Sklenar; Secretary - Laura Tvrdy. The Title I picnic will be held on May 8 for all families of students who participate in Title I. Thank you to Mrs. Shelly Hlavaty and Mrs. Crystal Haecker for organizing the picnic. Thank you to the PTO for providing funds to purchase a book for each of the Title I participants. Great job to Mrs. Kristine White and Mrs. Kendra Carlson for organizing an awesome plant sale on April 28! Thank you to everyone who purchased plants and to those who volunteered. Funds raised will support the Jump Start to Kindergarten Program held during the summer and retreats like the Kindness Retreat for our older students. The spring concert for grades 3-5 is scheduled for May 14 at 6:30pm. Please join us. Mr. Luke hosted an elementary band party on May 10 for those students who have earned their required number of Band Bucks. End of year field trips are happening. The PTO is providing funds to help make field trips possible. We are looking forward to our Track and Field Day on May 11. Rain date is May 15. Thank you to Mr. Nathan Liess and his volunteers for facilitating this experience. DARE recognition for fifth graders was held on May 4. Thank you to Saunders County Deputy Janecek for facilitating this program. A special thank you to Dr. Harriet Gould for representing the district at the event. An end of year BOGO Book Fair is taking place May so students can purchase books for the summer months. Thank you to Mrs. White and Mr. Rose for facilitating. All BackPack families are receiving extra food for the summer months. The PTO will also provide BackPack families with KFOR Summer Fun Punch Tickets. Thank you to all who support this program! An end of year Awards Assembly will be held on May 22. We will recognize students for a variety of accomplishments. Please feel free to join us. Parents are encouraged to pick up Report Cards beginning May 24. Thank you to the Board of Education for the treats during Teacher Appreciation Week! Submitted by Ann Egr, Elementary Principal at Ceresco/Special Education Director Elementary-MUSTANG Award Winners: At our March/April awards celebration the following students were honored for the MUSTANG award: Bair Edwards, Landon Ekwall, Lela Hass, Kashdyn Novak, Kayla Matulka, Will Varilek, Emma Guenther, Sarah Lange. P.O.P (Positive Office Pass) drawing recipients were: Landon Ekwall, Justin Grundin, Lane Walsh, Phoenix Monroe-Burch, Braeden Orcutt, Shae Jensen, Jeramiah Norton NSCAS and MAP testing are complete for grades 3, 4, and 5. The students worked very hard! Thanks to teachers for being flexible with the computer lab during this testing season. The third and final official round of DIBELS testing is complete. The teachers’ will be using the data to assess and evaluate if students are improving with the reading interventions. Thanks to Mrs. Haecker for her dedication to this program. To promote positivity and kindness, Raymond Central Elementary Schools celebrated "It’s Kool to be Kind" day on April 18. Every student and staff member wore kindness shirt to promote this event. Every Wednesday for the remainder of the year students and staff were encouraged to wear their shirt as a reminder that kindness matters. Prospective kindergarteners attended roundup on Friday, April 20. Currently, Ceresco has 31 students registered for next year. D.A.R.E Graduation was held on April 20 at 2:00 in the Ceresco gym. Officer Janecek from the Saunders County Sheriff Department is the D.A.R.E. instructor. The Mission of the DARE Program is to teach students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives. The course’s ten lessons are arranged in a scaffolding process, starting with the basics of responsibility and decision making and then building on each other allowing students to develop their responses to real- life situations. Students apply what they learned by writing an essay. Congratulations to Owen Kreikemeier, Taylor Oldfield, and Alyssa Rothwell for having their compositions picked to read aloud. Raymond Central appreciates the work that Officer Janecek does to make this a successful educational opportunity Visitation day for 5th grade students was April 25 at 1 pm. A vital indicator of a successful post-elementary experience is participating transition activities. The transition between these can seem overwhelming for some students. The visit helps orient the students to the building and procedures at the 6th grade level. The Spring Title I Picnic was on Wednesday, May 9 in Valparaiso with 60 Families in attendance. The district appreciates the dedication Mrs. Haecker and Mrs. Hlavaty have for this valuable program. The 5th grade band party was held Thursday, May 10 from 3:30-5:30 at the elementary school in Valparaiso. Students played games in the gym, snacks and drinks, and a movie. The incentive is for band members who have 45 boxes of practice time (20 min each) on their practice sheets and signed by a parent. Thank-you Mr. Luke for doing this for the students! The spring concert for grades 4-6 will be on Monday, May 14 starting at 6:30 at the high school. Thank you to Mr. Strouf, Mr. Luke, and the students for their continued support of the fine arts! A huge shout out goes to Mrs. White and Mrs. Carlson for organizing the annual plant sale! Once again, this was a huge success! The estimated sales totaled around $25,000. Fantastic support for this event! The spring carnival was Friday, April 13 at Valparaiso Elementary. The theme was Raymond Central Roundup! The event was a huge success! Thanks so much to our amazing PTO for their dedication and support to the students at Raymond Central! The evening had exciting games and delicious treats. The Raymond Central Trap Team provided the meal. This event could not have happened without the PTO, Boys Scouts, and parent volunteers! A fun night was had by all! The BOGO (Buy One, Get One Free) Book Fair ran from May 7-11. The event is always a huge success and a great way for students to find some great books to read over the summer! Thanks to Mrs. Haecker and Mr. Smith for all of their efforts to make this happen! As the year comes to an end, the last few weeks are filled with field trips, track and field day on May 11 and the annual school picnic and awards assembly will be held on May 22. It is a busy time! Special Education-End of the year state reporting has started and is in full swing. Psychologist Services: 45 evaluations were conducted this year (14 NEW referrals and 31 Re-evaluations). Students receiving special education services are required to have a new evaluation every three years to determine if the student still meets verification criteria by Nebraska Rule 51. |

Discussion:
Multiple Intelligence Update - A majority of the teachers have taken the MI Assessment. We will utilize this assessment next fall as a tool to understand our student's learner profiles. Tim Golden will come in to present his knowledge with staff at the beginning of the year and also work with the 6th grade as a pilot study for the assessment. Tim is also working on creating an identifier using multiple sources of data to determine student need and supports.
Safety Audit Update - Attached is a copy of the feedback we received from our annual safety audit. Ed Johnson, former superintendent, walked each building site and took detailed notes. We are in the process of creating a plan to make sure we follow through with his recommendations. Discussion:
Roof Maintenance - This summer we have an estimated $1,900 worth of repair work to the high school roof. All three sites will be re-evaluated next year.
Lagoon Project - Lloyd Jakoubek will begin work at the end of this month creating a new pipe to lagoon #2. Phil Carlson has been working with a company to get our permeability test complete. This project should be complete by the end of summer. Ceresco Air Quality Project - The pre-bid walkthrough was held on May 8. It was open for anyone interested in bidding the project. Bids are due Friday, May 18 at 2:00 PM. I will travel to Davis Design to be there as bids are opened. Work will begin shortly after school is out. |

We are in the beginning phase of determining what we want technology to look like in the next 5 years and what supports we need for students and teachers. The Technology Committee met last week to discuss what purchases need to be made for next year. Mr. Marsh is in the process of creating a priority list.

Discussion:
We will begin the process of reviewing and revising our current student code of conduct for extra-curricular activities. Students who participate in extracurricular activities for RC (and all other schools) are held to a higher standard in regards to their behavior and choices. If students choose to engage in illegal activity (tobacco, drugs, alcohol, etc...) they are suspended from competition for a period of time. Essentially, we need to be more clear and transparent for administrators and parents to understand the expectation. |
