The 6th grade, 7th grade and new student open house will be on Monday, August 13 from 6:00-7:00 PM. We had a picnic for all the new teachers new to the Raymond Central School District on Monday, August 6 at the high school. Thanks to the board members for attending this greet and meet event. All new staff and their families were in attendance. Although we had to move it inside, Mother Nature couldn’t spoil the evening. Looking forward and excited to have the new teachers at Raymond Central. We had a great opening session with all staff at the high school on Friday, August 10. Thanks to all the administrators for preparing for the start of the school year. Also thanks to Patti Hudson who prepared pull pork sandwiches for lunch. Dr. Joel did a fantastic job of presenting the goals and vision for learning to all staff. Mr. Luke conducted band camp July 30-August 3 at the high school. In July, I had the opportunity to attend a Discovery Ed Conference for a few days. I was able to make connections with administrators from across the country and also from Canada. It gave me an opportunity to learn more about the software and I will share a few resources to our staff regarding teaching strategies and differentiation. Submitted by Greg Wilmes, Activities Director/Assistant Principal Practices for fall sports started on Monday, August 6. Scrimmages will be held for volleyball and football on Saturday, August 18 with the Booster Club grilling burgers in between. First contests will be August 16 for softball, August 23 for cross country, August 24 for football and August 25 for volleyball. The school, along with help from the Music Boosters and the Education Foundation, purchased a 7x16’ enclosed trailer to be used by all RC activities. I envision football, marching band, DI, one-act, SkillsUSA and other activities being able to use it. Football already took it to football camp in July. It has a side door to enter and the back has a gate that opens down to a ramp. Also thanks to Klute equipment and specifically Les Hornung for giving the school a great price! Homecoming is scheduled for Friday, September 7 vs DC West. Submitted by Shelly Dostal, Elementary Principal at Valparaiso/K-6 Curriculum Director We will welcome students and families to school on Monday, August 13 for Meet and Greet Night. A highlight of my summer learning was attending the Solution Tree PLC Conference in St. Charles, Missouri. Administrators Days in Kearney at the end of July was full of information for the upcoming school year. A group of K-12 teachers attended the Google Learning Summit in Lincoln in July. Grades 6-12 Science Teachers, Mr. Haecker, and I attended standards training at the ESU#2 on August 2. New teachers attended the ESU#2 New Teacher Academy on August 6 and 7. School Improvement/AdvancED - The committee met on August 7 and 8 to review the School Improvement Plan, District Goals, and prepare for the AdvancED visit in November. We thank these teachers for their leadership. The PTO sponsored an elementary family pool party on August 4 at the Wahoo pool. On August 7 they had their first planning meeting for the year. Items discussed included Meet and Greet Night, first day snacks for students, the annual fundraiser, carnival, Multi-Cultural Night, and other event dates for the school year as well as discuss some new ideas. They plan to provide lunch for he elementary staff on the first day of school. Thank you for a great way to celebrate the beginning of the year! We will have a "Safety Day" on August 24 to practice all the various emergency procedures that we hope we never have to use. We will hold bus evacuations, a fire drill, a tornado drill, and a safety/security drill with the new standard response protocol (SRP - lockdown/ lockout/ evacuate/ secure). The Food Bank Backpack Program will again offer backpacks of food at RC. The RCEF helps with the accounting and a committee including staff, parents, and community members is in charge of oversight. Backpacks filled with food are distributed to families at the end of each week at each elementary school. Families may apply for the program similar to the Free and Reduced Lunch Program and Student Fee Waiver. Funds for the program are from private donations by organizations and individuals, and the Hustle Fun Run and Pancake Feed. Mark your calendars for the Hustle on October 27 this year. A big thank you to all the organizations and individuals who have donated their money, time, and energy to make this program successful. A special thank you to Immanuel Lutheran Church for housing the food and to all volunteers who pack the bags each week. Our two new 71 passenger buses arrived on Monday. During winter break, we are looking at replacing all the old radios with new digital radios to allow for non-interrupted communication between buses and the high school. We have two teachers (one at each elementary) who are going to pilot flexible seating in their classrooms. Thanks to REAP dollars, we will be able to purchase different tables, chairs, etc... I am excited to see students learn in these new spaces! New REAP money for the 2018-2019 school year is $37,697. Our new website is almost up and running. Thanks to Ms. Bastian for her work with this. Mr. Marsh did a great job supporting, but also setting up our new credit card payment system.
