Raymond Central will be presenting at the National School Board Conference in Philadelphia! Our work with the Superintendent 360 Evaluation has become a popular topic among NE schools and now nationwide. Kris White submitted the following story on "I ♥ Public Schools": The bus can often be a place where kids aren’t kind, but sometimes kindness shows up when you aren’t looking for it. We had a sixth grade student riding home on the bus working on a challenging math problem. A high school sophomore noticed her and asked if she needed help. The sixth grader replied, "Yes, I don’t get this at all." The sophomore said, "Well math is my thing, let me help you!" The sixth grade student completed all her math problems and said, "I really get it now!" |

Mr. Harrington and his construction class are going to add railings and tie down spots in the new activities trailer so band, one act and any other group using the trailer can better secure their cargo. Thanks for their help! Submitted by Shelly Dostal, Elementary Principal at Valparaiso/K-6 Curriculum Director Teachers have developed daily routines and procedures for their classrooms as well as curriculum pacing schedules for the year. DIBELS Next assessments are complete and progress monitoring and interventions are beginning. In addition, Grade 2 has started using the new EnVision 2.0 materials for math. Teachers are spending more time preparing and planning as they use the materials for the first time. ELA Grade K-5 teachers met in their grade level groups for the first time this year to identify essential learnings and develop better common assessment tools. This will be ongoing work throughout the year. DARE, a drug and alcohol resistance program coordinated by the Saunders County Sheriff’s Department, will be starting next week. Thank you to Deputy Thomas Janecek for leading the lessons for our 5th grade classrooms. Homework Club and Band lessons are starting, too. Assessment Update - Embargoed data has been released to districts. The latest news from NDE about assessment data is that Individual Student Reports will be available to schools in early October. Mr. Haecker and I will share district data with staff when it becomes available. We will plan to share district data at the board meeting as soon as we can. The plan will be for families to receive their individual student’s report at Parent-Teacher Conferences in October as long as everything goes as expected. Students will be administered the NWEA MAP during September 17-28. These adaptive assessments help teachers better understand student academic levels and provide parents with information about their student’s academic performance. The Advanced Ed/School Improvement Committee met on August 29 to finalize the goals for the year and discuss professional learning time plans. The Committee will meet again on September 17 to organize and prepare for the RC AdvancED Accreditation visit in November. A webinar with more details is also being viewed. Faculty met on August 29 for the first late start professional learning time. Dr. Joel led training about Collective Commitments and Professional Learning Communities. ESU#2 professional developer Dr. Gary Nunnally led training focused on identifying essential learnings. The next late start is scheduled for September 26. Mr. Haecker, Mrs. Osten, Mrs. Egr, and I attended the NDE Workshop - Ensuring Quality MTSS Implementation Conference on August 29-31. Sessions I attended focused on tier support, quality core instruction, and implementing interventions. On September 11, all students and staff will gather around the flag pole for a short ceremony in observance of Patriot Day. Students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to show their patriotism. The student body will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and we will play the Star Spangled Banner. Teachers will observe Patriot Day in their classrooms with a variety of lessons. Jennifer Schultz is the PTO chair. In conjunction with Believe Kids, the annual fundraiser kicked off on August 29 and ends on September 12. Families can continue to order online throughout the year to benefit our school. PTO will sponsor a family night at Raising ‘Canes on September 11. A percentage of the sales will go to the PTO. The Food Bank Backpack Program will start distribution of backpacks each Friday beginning September 7. We thank Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ceresco for their continued support of housing and organizing the packing each week. The Committee is organizing the fundraising event for the year. The Hustle, a fun run/walk of 1 mile or 5K or 10K run, is scheduled for October 27 along the Oak Creek Trail in Valparaiso. A pancake feed is being planned to coincide with the run. We hope to see you there! We had picture day on August 29. Inter-State Studios was the photographer for the first time. Elementary Students have been participating in Homecoming Week festivities. We had crazy sock day, Western wear day, color day, and Mustang Spirit day. Go Mustangs!! Submitted by Ann Egr, Elementary Principal at Ceresco/Special Education Director The school year is off to a great start! The PTO fundraiser is underway. Final date for sales is September 12. The kids are doing an excellent job and excited to see who gets to have a Principal Taxi for a day! Students and staff were encouraged to show their school spirit by participating in Homecoming week festivities the week of September 4-7. The Food Bank Backpack Program started on September 7. This program is a valuable service to Raymond Central families. Thank you to all of the volunteers who pack the bags each week, and to all who donate to the program each year. Your contributions are appreciated. Please mark your calendars for the annual fundraiser, The Hustle, on October 27. Crystal Haecker will be running the Homework Club this year. It is scheduled to begin on September 12 from 3:20-4:20. This useful program is part of our student support system. Mrs. Hudson, the second grade teacher at Ceresco, is piloting flexible seating in her classroom. Research suggests Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. The students love the options for their preferred learning style. Mrs. Dostal, Mr. Haecker, Ms. Osten, and myself attended the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Support System) summit sponsored by NDE on August 29-31. MTSS is a service delivery system based on the concept that some students require early and powerful general education interventions of increasing intensity. The information gained will help guide and support as Raymond Central develops our MTSS program |

Discussion:
Professional Development Update - We have been setting the stage to revamp our professional learning communities by shifting our focus on teaching to a focus on learning in order to ensure that students are not only taught but also to ensure that they learn. At our last late start, we began our learning around Dufour's question #1, what do we want students to know and be able to do? Dr. Gary Nunnally is working with teachers to develop a process and protocol for determining essential learning.
AdvancEd Update - We have a School Improvement team meeting Monday, September 17 to continue planning for the site visit on November 13-16. The team has been working hard uploading documents and creating summaries that will be used during the visit. Parents and staff have completed their required survey. |

Discussion:
One of our goals is to work towards a positive ratio of option enrolled students focusing on bringing in more students than we are losing. The first step is to understand how many students we lose/gain during the given year. Next, we need to look at where the students live. We need to brainstorm ideas and strategies that will help us close the gap. |
9.4. Facilities Report
Discussion:
Mr. Harrington's class is ready to finish the shed that was started in the spring. Due to recent rains, the project has been postponed another week. His goal is still to have it enclosed and near completion by winter. Once the shed is complete, the portable and semi trailer will be sold. After this project, we will look at creating several partnerships to build a local home.
