End of the first quarter will be Friday, October 12. Parent-Teacher Conferences at the Middle/High School will be Wednesday, October 17 and Thursday, October 18 from 4:00-8:00 PM. On Wednesday, 6th grade teachers will be in their classrooms while grades 7-12 will be in the commons and new gym. On Thursday, all teachers will be in their classrooms. MAP testing is complete for grades 6-8. All the juniors will complete the ASVAB test on Thursday, November 7. Eighteen juniors/sophomores are signed up and will be taking the PSAT test on Wednesday, October 10. Raymond Central is hosting District Cross Country at Wildwood on Thursday, October 11. State meet is October 19 in Kearney. Set Me Free organization will be coming to our school on October 29-30 to share information with our students regarding internet safety and sex trafficking. The internet can be a dangerous place and we want to make sure our students protect themselves while using the internet. We will host our Veterans on Monday, November 12 at 10:00 AM for a Veteran’s Day Program to honor and recognize their service to our great country. Coffee and rolls will be provided in the Mustang Room prior to and following the program. Several staff members have baked goods for the guests in the past and will again this year. ESU and the math department will be working on our standards and developing the essential learnings for 6-12th grade on October 22. Juniors had their college visit day on October 1. They went to Beatrice in the morning for a College Fair, had lunch and toured Doane Campus in the afternoon. Seniors individualized their campus visit on October 4 - Mrs. Osten took one group to UNL and I took 13 students to SCC Lincoln and Milford. We are excited about the trip and providing an opportunity for our students to get on another college campus. Mr. Kenning, Mrs. Spangler, and Mrs Huck attended a Middle School Conference @ York Middle School on October 5, put on by the Nebraska Association for Middle Level Education. Deputy Piitz and I will be going over the Standard Response Protocol in the coming weeks. Land Judging contest will be October 10 near Mead, NE We welcome back Mrs. Lehn from maternity leave on October 4. Thanks to Mr. Randy Shada for filling in while she was gone. Thanks to Jeff Schellpeper who worked with our land judging team a few times during the school day. Submitted by Greg Wilmes, Activities Director/Assistant Principal Cross Country Malcolm Invite - Rylee Haecker-15th place; RC Invite - Rylee Haecker-6th, Aiden Urbom-14th. CC districts will be hosted at Wildwood on Thursday, October 11, weather permitting! Senior night for Cross Country will be half-time of the boys football game on Friday, October 12 vs Neumann. State Cross Country will be Friday, October 19 at Kearney. Softball finished their season at districts with a 2-2 record including a loss to district winner Milford in the 1st round and runner-up Bishop Neumann is losers bracket play. Overall record on the season was 23-10 - great season ladies! Thanks seniors and coaches! Volleyball has had a few wins and losses along the way. They are currently 11-11 on the year with recent wins over Arlington and Ashland-Greenwood and a loss to Platteview. We will host Platteview in NCC tourney play on Tuesday, October 9. Districts will start the last week of October at Pius. Jr-High Volleyball will finish their season at home vs David City on October 9. Football has a 2-5 record after a tough loss to Hastings St. Cecilia last Friday, 21-10. Senior night is Friday, October 12 vs Bishop Neumann and then they will finish their season at Columbus Lakeview on Friday, October 19. Jr-High Football defeated North Bend, Logan View and Syracuse within the last few weeks and finishes their season on October 9 vs Lincoln Lutheran. Kelbie Schnieder and Elissa Fredrickson were not picked as one of the 48 winners of the NSAA/US Bank State Winners, but are still recognized for their work in school and communities as local winners. Submitted by Shelly Dostal, Elementary Principal at Valparaiso/K-6 Curriculum Director Assessment - Students in grades 3-8 completed fall NWEA MAP testing on line. I will attend training on October 12 to find out more information about how the state will use the NWEA MAP assessment and the changes with state assessments. Mr. Haecker and I are planning to share RC state testing and ACT results from spring 2018 as soon as we are able. However, at the time of this report, data is still embargoed. Nebraska Department of Education has informed school districts to expect data about October 15 with Individual Student Reports to schools about October 31. Professional Development - At our most recent late start on September 26, teachers continued to develop collective commitments for RC. Dr. Joel facilitated training about the Professional Learning Community structure RC will be using. Elementary grade level teachers continue to meet to develop essential learnings in the ELA standards in our curriculum maps with assistance from ESU#2 staff. Curriculum - The annual fall state Curriculum Directors meeting on October 4 and 5 will be held in Nebraska City. Much information about curriculum and assessment at the state level was shared. Mr. Dale Rasmussen has been participating in the state Social Studies standards revision process. Report Cards and Parent Teacher Conferences - Elementary conferences will be held on October 16 and 17 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Parents will sign up for conferences via an on line program. You can go to https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Raymond_Central to see how it works. First quarter Report Cards and NWEA MAP results will be given to parents at the conferences. School Improvement/AdvancED - The group continues to meet to prepare for the AdvancED visit in November. Agenda items have included: Professional Learning time in October, planning for the AdvancED visit, and analysis of various surveys for stakeholder groups. PTO - Fall fundraising items will be delivered soon for distribution during Parent Teacher Conferences. All students who sold 20 or more items were in a drawing for a Fit Bit. Students from Valparaiso who sold 20 or more items are: Kenesaw McGhee-Weeks, Preston Zugmier, Owen Korger, Cortni Lovell, Connor Tice, Makenna Hellerich, and Adam Jamison. Thank you to all who ordered and purchased items from the fundraiser! PTO hosted a "Raising Cane’s" night in September and will host a "Runza" night on October 9. The PTO earns a percentage of the sales (10-20%) at these restaurants during set hours. A family day is scheduled for Martin’s Apple Orchard on October 19. Meals will be provided to teachers during Parent Teacher Conference nights on October 16 and 17. Family Game Night is being sponsored on October 25 in Valparaiso. PTO is planning a Multi-Cultural Night on November 9 at the HS from 5:30-7:30 PM. We hope you can join us! Thank you to our amazing PTO for all they do! Other Happenings at Valparaiso: Fire Safety - Fire Prevention Week is October 8-12. Students will participate in an afternoon of activities on October 12 facilitated by the Valparaiso Rural Fire District. A big thank you to all the volunteer firefighters for helping our students learn about fire prevention and safety. Fourth graders attended an "Ag Literacy" day at the 4-H Center on October 4. This event correlates well with their study of Nebraska. The Scholastic Book Fair will be at school on October 12-18 in conjunction with Parent Teacher Conferences. Thank you to Mrs. Andrea Rockemann, Ms. Barb Schiefen, and Mrs. Trisha Fletcher for facilitating the book fair. The Raymond Central Food Bank BackPack Committee will host its annual fundraiser on October 27. The Hustle run/walk and pancake feed raises the needed funds to provide backpacks filled with food for student families on the weekends. We hope you can join us from 9:00-11:00 AM in Valparaiso. We will be observing Red Ribbon Week during October 23-31. Fall/Halloween Class Parties will be held October 31. Training: Nebraska Paraeducator Conference is October 10 in Kearney. Raymond Central will be sending four paraeducators to this conference: Haylee Kremer, Kathy Frederickson, Kristine Donahue, and Georgia Caraway. This conference is sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Education and Project PARA. Rule 51 (51-010.03c) requires that paraprofessionals shall be appropriately trained.School Fundraiser: The students did a fantastic job with the fall fundraiser. The estimated total participation for both buildings is 43.4%. Great job!! Finally, Thank you PTO for all that you do for our students! MUSTANG Award Winners: At our September/October awards celebration the following students were honored for the MUSTANG award: Peyton Blank, Hannah Sklenar, Brennen Crees, Cannon Olsufka, Colton Badberg, Stella Harvey, Kashdyn Novak, Gage Thomas, Wesley Bryan, Allyson Tvrdy, Ticia Hall, Wren Houchin, Kayla Matulka, Will Varilek, Myah Matulka, Teijen Novak, Savannah Masek, Bella Thornburg, Jasmine Wells. P.O.P (Positive Office Pass) drawing recipients were: Aviana Pebley, Emory Burch, Lydia O’Malley, Zethany Cerny, Emma Pytlik. PTO Fundraiser Winners: Fitbit - Tyler Scheinost, Principal Taxi for a Day - Gage Thomas. NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) wrapped-up this week. MAP provides educators with detailed information they need to build curriculum and meet their students’ needs. Fire Safety is October 9. The Fire Department will present fire safety information to each of the classrooms. The 4th and 5th grades will walk to the station, try on the gear, and put out fires. Parent/Teacher Conferences at the elementary are scheduled for October 16 and 17. The elementary schools will continue to use the online system, PTCFast, for scheduling. The 9th annual Hustle run/walk and pancake feed is scheduled for Saturday, October 27. Registration was due October 4. Thank-you, in advance, to all the volunteers! On Thursday, October 4, the Raymond Central MTSS (Multi-Tiered Support System) Team participated in NDE’s MTSS Pilot Program. RC’s Team consists of Dr. Joel, Mrs. Egr, Mrs. Dostal, Mr. Haecker, Mrs. Maxwell, Mrs. Hudson, and Ms. Osten. The workshop was held at Educational Service Unit 2 in Fremont. Special Education: 1) Early childhood special education (ECSE) programs and related services designed to serve children below age five with verified disabilities and 2) School age special education programs and related services designed to serve children with verified disabilities from age five through the school year in which the children reach age twenty one. Following are current numbers by grade: B-5 (ECSE) - 10; PreK - 4; K - 5 (2 Non-Public, 1 Speech only); 1s t- 4 (1 Non-Public, 1 Speech only); 2nd - 5 (3 speech only); 3rd - 8 (1 speech only); 4th - 5; 5th - 9 (1 speech only); 6th - 7; 7th - 6; 8th - 8; 9th - 12; 10th - 4; 11th - 3; 12th - 1; age 18-21 - 1. Total = 92.

The School Improvement Team has been working hard to prepare for the AdvancEd site visit on November 13-16. Climate and culture student, parent and staff survey results were shared with the Board.
After reviewing our exterior camera quality at the high school with SEi, Dr. Joel indicated that we will be replacing three cameras and adding one additional camera all with multi-lens cameras. We are also getting a quote to add a wireless camera on one of the light poles to avoid the costly process of burying the line. |

7.4. Facilities Report
Discussion:
Three air flow dampers have been ordered and will be replaced at Ceresco Elementary by H&S. Davis Design will run a final balancing test needed after the installation. Trane will be conducting an energy/HVAC audit at Valparaiso Elementary to be proactive in addressing the 20 year old heat pumps in the building before a major issue occurs. The Facility Committee will meet in the near future to create a revised priority list of work to be completed by the end of the summer.
