7. Student Report

Ava Reed
Discussion:
Scottsbluff High School Senior Ava Reed provided an update to the Board of Education. Ava stated November was a short month with Thanksgiving Break, but the students still had numerous celebrations. SHS Play Production hosted another great dinner theatre two weeks ago and placed 7th at their district competition this past weekend. The Unified Bowling team placed 6th in the district competition. SHS winter sports teams have officially started their seasons, with all teams traveling across the state this past weekend. Ava thanked Sutherland Public Schools for their generous hospitality when they recently hosted the SHS swim team due to their bus breaking down. Finally, the SHS career student organizations concluded their district competitions. Ava stated there are multiple upcoming holiday concerts and celebrations taking place over the next two weeks. Additionally, there are numerous tournaments and athletic events scheduled to take place before the holiday break. Ava stated finals will take place next week, with many WNCC and dual credit finals occurring this week. Ava stated the students at SHS are excited to finish their fall semester, but they still have much to accomplish to ensure they finish the 2025 year with success. Ava thanked the Board for their continued support and wished them happy holidays.

Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mike Mason provided a Continuous Improvement update. Scottsbluff High School Principal Justin Shaddick and Assistant Principals Kelli Jensen and Kenna Urwiller presented a building update. Bluffs Middle School Principal Jana Mason presented a building update. Lake Minatare Elementary Principal Ashlen Schaneman presented a building update. Lincoln Heights Elementary Principal Jeremy Benhke and Assistant Principal Krystal Rodriguez presented a building update. Longfellow Elementary Principal Lukas Benzel presented a building update. Discussion:
Superintendent Dr. Andrew Dick echoed the comments of Board Member Tory Schwartz and thanked the building principals, Content Area Specialists Jadie Beam and Mandy Hadenfeldt, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mike Mason, and Director of Communications Melissa Price for their role in the creation of the building profiles. He noted the most important work occurs in the day-to-day efforts of the staff, counselors, paraprofessionals, custodians, and the principals who make this school system function so well. He stated the District has so many great things to celebrate, especially the teamwork that makes the education delivered in our schools possible.
Dr. Dick stated that the addition at Westmoor Elementary is nearing completion, noting at least one Board member has been able to observe the progress recently. He commented that he imagines that Westmoor Principal Bethany Jolliffe, Assistant Principal Kristen Juelfs, and Secretary Jolene Wills are anxious to relocate from their temporary offices to their new offices, stating they plan to move in over the Winter Break. He stated that when students return on January 6th, they will be able to enter through the new front doors. Lastly, Dr. Dick wished happy holidays to the staff and Board of Education. |
