Discussion:
The Bedford County Board of Education met in a regular monthly session on May 15, 2025 at 6:00 pm in the Board of Education Central Office located at 500 Madison St., Shelbyville, TN. Board members Glenn Forsee, Michael Cook, Brian Crews, David Brown, Dan Reed, Andrea Anderson, Barton Williams, Shanna Boyette and Lana Craig were present.
Chairman Michael Cook called the meeting to order, followed by a moment of silence, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jackson Gibbs and Avery Galloway, 6th grade students at Community Middle School. |

Discussion:
The Valedictorians and Salutatorians for each high school were recognized by the board and given awards.

Discussion:
Rebecca Tidwell and Xavier Hamler recognized District Instructional Coaches Lee Ann Butts, Kristie Caldwell and Sandy Powell for their leadership in Bedford County Schools. Each one was presented a bouquet of flowers.

VI.A. Rezoning for Liberty and Southside

Discussion:
Request to rezone Creighton Place, Greenbriar Avenue, Holt Avenue, Redbud Drive, Roddy Road, and White Drive from Southside to Liberty School. With this rezoning the portables at Southside can be removed. There will not be any availability for open enrollment at Southside School. Motion was made by Glenn Forsee and seconded by Lana Craig. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

VI.B. Science Textbook Adoption

Discussion:
Mr. Hamler and Mrs. Tidwell presented Powerpoint slides to show the process of choosing the vendor for the new textbooks. The presentation explained the components they looked at and the rubrics that were used to compare the top three vendors. The Science Adoption Committee recommended SAVVAS science curriculum for K-12 and McGraw-Hill curriculum for Physical Science only. McGraw-Hill is the only vendor that offers physical science that is approved by the state. Both vendors are on the official state approved list. Motion was made by Andrea Anderson and seconded by Barton Williams. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

VI.C. Bid 25-24 Supplemental Instructional Programming

Discussion:
It was recommended to use Edmentum. They were the lowest bid that met the specifications. Motion was made by Brian Crews and seconded by David Brown. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Discussion:
It was recommended to go with NCS Pearson, Inc. They were the lowest bid that met the specifications. Motion was made by Brian Crews and seconded by David Brown. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Discussion:
This bid is for the cabling for our technology. It was recommended to go with Systems Integrations. Motion was made by Shanna Boyette and seconded by Barton Williams. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Discussion:
It was recommended to go with Genesis Roofing. They were the lowest bid and within budget. Motion was made by Lana Craig and seconded by Brian Crews. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Discussion:
This is for the lower wing of the building. It was recommended to go with Roof Choice LLC. They were the lowest bid and within budget. Motion was made by Dan Reed and seconded by Glenn Forsee. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

VI.H. Policy 6.204 Attendance of Non-Resident Students - Fee Determination

Discussion:
This is to approve the out-of-county tuition to remain at $1200 per student. The question was asked how much of the tuition has been collected and Dr. Garrett replied 100% has been collected. Motion was made by David Brown and seconded by Barton Williams. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Discussion:
*Because I am related to an employee of Bedford County Schools, I have a conflict of interest in the proposal about to be voted upon. However, I declare that my argument and my vote answer only to my conscience and to my obligation to my constituents and the citizens this body represents.

Discussion:
This amendment is mainly just cleanups and grants. The Summer Learning Camp grant came in and a few department transfers for principals to move money so it can be spent. The Summer Learning Camp will serve approximately 1000 students. Motion was made by Brian Crews and seconded by David Brown. Motion was carried with a 9-0 vote.

Mr. Cook announced the next board meeting will be on June 19th at the Central Office. There will be a special called meeting on June 26th at Noon for the end of the year budget amendment.

VII.D. Superintendent's Report
Discussion:
Dr. Garrett said that Lilly Smith is going to the State Tennis Tournament and the Viqueens are going to Sub-State. She announced about the Cops and Bobbers event to take place on May 16th.
Graduations are taking place with Shelbyville Central High School on May 20th, Cascade High School on May 22nd, and Community High School on May 23rd. |
