The Goethe-Institut, an organization of the Federal Republic of Germany, has selected Bellevue West High School as one of their 2013 Award of Excellence recipients. Bellevue West student Casey Jones has been selected as one of 9 winners (12,000 students from all over the U.S. and Canada participated) to receive a scholarship to attend a Young Learners' Course in Germany in the summer of 2014. The Goethe-Institut is dedicated to promoting knowledge of the German language, providing information on Germany's cultural, social and political life, and fostering international cultural cooperation. |

Bellevue East student Mary LaPorte was selected as a winner of the 2014 National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT) Nebraska and SW Iowa Affiliate Aspirations in Computing Award. This is an award for women in computer science with both regional and national awards. Mary joins another East student, Catherine Storck, who won this award last year. Mary will be recognized, along with her sponsor Derek Babb, at NCWIT’s award ceremony April 6, 2014. |

The National Council of Teachers of English nominated Escape Key, Bellevue West’s student literary magazine, for the highest award, Superior, in the 2013 PRESLM Ranked Magazines. The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. Student Editors are Braylie Barrier, Caitie Nielson, Lauren Trunick, Ashley Weed, and Sue Yi. Faculty Advisors are Britton Sullivan and Aaron Stueve. The attachment is the NCTE Excellence in Student Literary Magazines – 2013 PRESLM Ranked Magazines for Nebraska.

Kindergarten orientation will be held the week of February 24 for those children who are eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2014. Children must reach their fifth birthday on or before July 31 of the current year (unless the child is eligible through early entrance assessment) in order to attend kindergarten.
Families will complete registration paperwork at Kindergarten Orientation or they may download paperwork from the Bellevue Public Schools' website and bring with them to orientation. Families will have an opportunity to explore the classrooms and visit with staff during orientation. Children are encouraged to attend with their parent/guardian(s). |
