Rationale:
NeSA Testing
As of Friday, May 4, all NeSA testing is complete. All tests have been submitted to the testing company. I want to complement the Norfolk Public Schools staff for the professional and efficient manner with which they handled the testing. They worked hard to ensure that our students had a safe testing environment where they were able to put forth their best effort. Principals, teachers, paras and secretaries all work hard to make the testing happen and they do a wonderful job of doing so. Also, hats off to our students who took part in the following testing sessions by grade:

Summer School opportunities at Norfolk Public Schools: - Sr. High and Alternatives for Success will operate two sessions - - First Session - May 29th-June 19 - - Second Session- June 20th – July 16th - Special Education sessions: - - Bel Air Elementary: Resource, Life and Autism - - Middle School: Life and Autism - - Senior High: Autism. Life and Achievement Center - - Woodland Park Elementary: Deaf Education - - Lincoln Elementary: Early Childhood SPED This year on May 2nd all of Norfolk Public Elementary Schools held their Kindergarten Round-up for our 2012-2013 kindergarten classes. All schools had a morning and an afternoon session. Parents and students came to school together. Parents completed some necessary paperwork for enrolling their child in school, discussed immunizations, physical exam needs and the kindergarten program. Students worked with the teachers and paraeducators on school readiness skills like coloring, numbers, group activities for fine and gross motor skills, and listened to and interacted with various story books. There were 265 students who participated in these half day activities. I have heard good comments from building administrators, teachers, parents and the students. Elementary administrators would like to continue this activity next year. Important dates in May: May 20th – Graduation at Norfolk Senior High School May 23rd - Last day for students grades K-11 - School dismissed at 11:30 a.m. May 24th - Last day for teachers |

The next regular meeting of the board of education is scheduled for Monday, June 11, 2012. The study session will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the central office board room and the regular business meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. |
