Marcia Herring from the Nebraska Association of School Boards outlined the work session for the board and went over the agenda:

VII. Board Vision Statement
Discussion:
The Board of Education agreed that the Mission of Columbus Public Schools is widely known and thought it should remain the same:
Engaging All Learners to Achieve Success.
The Board of Education then tackled the Vision statements for the district. These are:
We are committed to a clear and shared focus on student learning.
We are committed to a safe and supportive environment for learning and teaching.
We are committed to a high level of communication, trust, support, and accountability.

VIII. Board Operating Procedures
Discussion:
The Board discussed operating procedures and Roberts Rules for board meetings.

IX. Board Committee Structure
Discussion:
The board after a lot of discussion determined that the existing structure meets the needs of the district. Pre-Board meetings will continue, however board meeting agendas and pre-boards will be broken down into more focus:

Finance
Curriculum
Personnel (Negotiations)

X. Board Self-Assessment
Discussion:
The Board of Education will continue to self-assess their behavior, operating procedures, and workload.
