Discussion:  President Stearns called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and roll call was taken.

Discussion:  Tina Golter made a motion to appoint Ryan Stearns. This was seconded by Sara Gentry. No other discussion or nominations.

Discussion:  Necole Miller appointed Sara Gentry. Marge Spencer appointed herself. The board took a vote and it was a tie. The board voted again and it was a tie. The board voted again and Sarah won 4 to 2

Discussion:  Tina Golter started off her report stating she took metal to North Platte and got about $55. Also removed snow on January 3rd with the skid steer. 

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster gave Dan Robison's report. Sandy Larson and Megan Thomsen has completed the bus training requirements. Sandy is now the driver for the Gothenburg route. Vehicles will continue to go in for oil changes and fixing of parts. The short bus is up and running. Once it passes the inspection, it will be an option for another route bus. Dan is going to get certified to teach Driver's Education.

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster gave Ryan Sanger's report. The district is all caught up in the water service report. Broken toilets were fixed, filters were replaced, and library window shades were put up. The control board was replaced and the wrestling room heater was fixed. He reminded the wrestling coaches to turn the temperature down after practice so it doesn't fry the heater. 

Discussion:  Mr. Seamann gave his report. Winter sports are at their halfway point. Many sports have been postponed because of weather. MNAC Basketball brackets have been released and are out on Facebook. December gate was $5,600 and our official cost was $4,110 so the district made a profit $1500. January NSAA District Meeting had their meeting on December 10th. One item that was passed was the mandatory of the shot clock. This will add an additional cost as the current clock person can't run both. The price for a shot clock is about $5,525.00. This doesn't include shipping, or wiring. 

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster gave Mr. Larson's report. He has been monitoring attendance to make sure the district is up to state standards and board policy. He has been sending out letters to students that are over the limit. 

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster started off her report by stating enrollment went down a little bit because two families moved away over Christmas break. Current enrollment is 178 and option enrollment is 42%. Two more families are coming for tours to see about enrolling in the district. Esser III Funds are all spent except for the $55,000 left for professional development. Five staff members have applied for funding to continue education. Intent letters were sent out to all certified staff members. Julie Hoaglund will retire again at the end of the school year and Mariah Bottom will no longer provide distant learning spanish classes next year. January 24th at 2:00 at the Get N Go, Mrs Foster will be talking with the community about any information the community would like to know more about. 

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster would like to recognize Bob Fattig for his unwavering support of the new Brady FFA Chapter that will begin in the Fall of 2024. Bob has personally reached out to area businesses to publicize and recruit sponsors and donations to help our chapter have a successful start.

Mr. Larson and Mrs. Foster would like to recognize Rebecca Stearns for being awarded teacher of the month from North Platte Post! Mrs. Stearns often offers up her lunch time and her plan time to work with students.

Discussion:  General Fund is under budget by 10.48% and Hot Lunch is under budget by 7.19%. Roberta Karchner brought in the electricity bill for the downtown building on Friday. So that will also get paid, but will be on the February Check Register. The amount was $490.27. Necole Miller asked what SPED 0-2 was. We are contracted through ESU16 to provide services to 0-2 aged children in the district. Another question that was asked was if the district has a HAL group. The district at the moment does not, but are hoping to in the future. 

Discussion:  The Brady School Foundation Board met on January 11th at 7:00 pm.  The date for the Brady School Foundation Gala is March 15th. The entertainment for the evening is Dueling Pianos by Fun Pianos. 
Tickets will be $50 a piece which is a break-even cost.  Four VIP tables will be available, which includes preferred seating (up front next to pianos), first to be served at dinner, and drink tickets.The price for the VIP tables is still under discussion. The board discussed a schedule for the evening, advertising and auction items. Funding for this year will be a very general category. The board will meet again in February.

Discussion:  Tina Golter gave the Safety Committee report.The Safety Committee met on January 10, 2024 at 2:45 pm. Attendees: Ann Foster, Becky Simants, Angela Johnson, Yentle Dyas, Dan Larson, and Tina Golter

1. Fire Drills have had one every month so far. Sanger and Larson are recording dates and times are approximately two minutes. Sanger is also doing monthly checks on fire extinguishers and is being written on the back of the tag to keep accountable. 

2. Tornado Drills should be done once a year.

3. Bus Evacuations have completed one this year. Will need to complete one more.

4. SRP (review windows, locks, etc.). Hamilton Communication came in to look at our space. They looked over the announcement system and also keyless entry doors which would be about 3500 dollars. Some staff members can hear announcements and others can not. So the district is looking into a system where announcements can be heard from all locations in case of an emergency. 

Discussion:  The Board and the BEA settled an agreement. An added amount of $600 was added to the base. A teacher may advance horizontally up to two steps in any contract year. All years of teaching credit from a school district outside of Brady Public Schools will be accepted. On the extra duty list these were the following changes: a 2% increase for AD (12% of base), adding a MTSS Coordinator 7-12, adding a FFA Sponsor, adding a Wrestling Sponsor for girls (does not coach), adding a FFA Assistance, PBIS $20/hour, PM Access/Detention Supervisior $20/Session. It was also added in future years, due to attrition, the following sports will only hire one assistant coach: Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, and Wrestling.

Discussion:  The board will keep Flatwater Bank as the bank of record. Along with changing board rolls, the district needs to add Ann Foster to the signature card and remove James McGown.

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster has announced a preschool has been approved by Nebraska Department of Education for next Fall 2024 at Brady Public Schools. Details are still under way but thinking a four day week in the mornings for three and four year olds. A matching grant is in the process in hopes of getting $75,000. Some materials will need to get purchased ahead of hearing about the grant, to make sure items arrive in time before August. Transportation will not be provided to preschool students. A separate playground is not required, but some smaller playground equipment will be added to the additional playground. 

Discussion:  Discuss the dates for regular board of education meetings. State law requires to have the board meeting before the 3rd Monday of every month. The board decided to keep the board meetings on the second Monday unless it falls before the 8th day of each month. The start time of each meeting will now be 6:00 P.M.

Discussion:  The district received $2,627.59 for the purchase of Vape Detectors from the Juul Settlement.  After thorough research and a trial run, as well as speaking to area superintendents, Mrs. Foster's recommendation is to go with Soter Technologies FlySense Vape detectors. These vape detectors not only provide real time data and feedback, but also have a noise sensor to identify any loud noise that may be happening in the bathrooms or locker rooms.To purchase 10 vape detectors the total cost is $7,880 (Mrs. Foster was able to negotiate 40% off). To purchase 16 vape detectors to cover all the restrooms and locker rooms, the total cost is $9,702.00 (45% savings cost). Right now the leadership team (Mr.Larson,Mr.Blecha,Mr.Seamann,Ryan Sanger, and Mrs.Foster) get the notifications when the vape detectors go off. They work as a team to get to the location fast. Mr. Larson is able to look at the camera video and look at the time the notification went off for evidence to the student that they were in that certain location. 
 

Discussion:  Previously it was set for option enrollment special education capacity. It is now a law that a district can no longer set a capacity. If it increases the need for staffing, the district is able to decline accepting the student. 

Discussion:  Julie Hoaglund will be officially retiring at the end of school year 2023-2024.
