Action on City measures to mitigate COVID-19

Council Member Scott Hansen moved to add the closing of Gardner Public Library to the public effective Monday March 23, 2020 until further notice to Administrator Litchfield's response measures memorandum for the City of Wakefield, dated March 19, 2020. Discussion: The Wakefield City Council met discuss appropriate action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Administrator Litchfield provided elected officials with a proposed memorandum that he recommended the council adopt. The council discussed the Gardner Public Library, one item not originally covered in the memorandum. Current procedures set in place by the Library Board was limiting the amount of patrons at a time in the atrium, with staff disinfecting prior to more patrons entering. The general consensus among the council was that it would be safer in this situation to err on the side of caution and close the library to walk-in patrons all together.
