President B.J. Peters acknowledged A.J. Moore as a visitor.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into Executive Session for the protection of the public interest; or the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual, and if the individual has not requested a public meeting.

3. Conduct Interim Superintendent Interview(s)
Discussion:
President B.J. Peters introduced Gary Cooper as potential candidate for interim Superintendent. Gary is presently serving as an Interim Superintendent for Sandhills Public Schools in Thedford, Nebraska where he and his wife reside. A resume reflecting an extensive background in education and administration was shared with board members. B.J. Peters indicated that while Gary Cooper was one of several identified candidates, most others only had experience in smaller school districts. President Peters and Vice President Copsey had both met with Mr. Cooper last week to conduct an initial interview. After introductions, the floor was given to Gary to share a more about who he is and his work history. Cooper noted that he had received a warm reception, and appreciated the comradery witnessed among staff at the District Office which he felt would be crucial to enduring the transition. "There will be bumpy spots in the road (to establishing a permanent Superintendent), but my part of that trail is what you want to have smooth," Cooper noted in regards to his role over the course of the next 1-2 years and the leadership he offers. After hearing from Cooper, board members presented questions. In conclusion, A.J. Moore inquired about a public commentary period. President B.J. Peters indicated that public comment was not being taken during the meeting. Visitors, Gary Cooper and the board secretary were excused from the meeting as the board entered into executive session.

The next item on the agenda is a strategy session related to contract negotiations and the provision of directions to individuals who are negotiating on the board's behalf. In my opinion, the discussion of this matter in closed session necessary to protect the public interest. Is there a motion for the board to enter closed session to strategy session related to contract negotiations and the provision of directions to individuals who are negotiating on the board's behalf? |
