5. Facility Tour
Discussion:
Olivares led the committee on a tour of the facility, beginning with the cafeteria. The tables are old and worn and need replacement. Round tables were discussed as an option. This would be the Jr. High's 2nd highest priority.
Ventilation and exhaust in the boys locker room would be listed as the #1 proprity at the building. Hague informed the committee that he would pursue bids for removal and/or replacement of the ceiling tiles.
Priority #3 would be the replacement of old carpet in the commons area with tile. The pit could then be utilizaed as a school store.
Priority #4 is the replacement of wooden windows along the north side of the Freshman Academy. The frames won't open.
Olivares pointed out the successful movement of locker sections, which has elminiated congestion and allows for students to enter the building earlier in the day.
Projects completed at the site during winter break include the carpeting of two rooms, electrical work in shower rooms and the installation of a new water softener.
Lighting issues will be examined, both in the hallways and in classrooms.
Olivares requested that the Principal's office at the Jr. High and Freshman Academy, along with the storage room, be re-keyed. Carpet edges that are fraying near the media center were also examined.
