5.1. GPS Staff Member of the Month - Ms. Tracy Steele, Lincoln Elementary
Discussion:
Mrs. Barker, the principal of Lincoln Elementary School, introduced Tracy Steele as the November Bulldog of the Month. |
5.2. Northfield Elementary Building Report
Discussion:
John Weideman, principal at Northfield Elementary, introduced Mrs. Engel and students from her 1st grade class. The students presented the use of Math Talk in the classroom. Math Talk is being able to have a respectful conversation and questioning others about the multiple approaches to correctly solve a problem. Mrs. Schlothauer and Mrs. Stephens, 6th grade teachers at Northfield, also had students who presented about persuasive commercials and the school newspaper.

5.4. Curriculum Committee Report
Discussion:
BJ Peters reported for the Curriculum Committee which met at the High School. They were impressed by the Samsung technology Mr. Reinmuth had in his classroom. The committee also discussed the new math curriculum and the different processes to find the correct answer. Mary Winn recognized the curriculum consistency between all the elementary schools.

Discussion:
Josh Lacy informed the board that the Facilities Committee discussed the estimates for the new construction. |
5.6. Business Committee Report
Discussion:
Brent Holliday reported for the Business Committee which approved the AP listing for the month. They also discussed the RFQ for the furnishing and asbestos containment for the High School. |

7.1. Discuss, consider, and take all necessary action regarding an invitation to join the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference. Gering will retain membership in the Western Conference.
More Information:
GPS has received an invitation to join the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference starting in the 2018-2019 school year. Members of the conference will include Gering, Columbus, Hastings, North Platte, McCook, and Scottsbluff. |
7.2. Executive Session for the protection of the public interest for the sole purpose of discussing strategy related to the sale of the Cedar Canyon property.
Discussion:

9. Board Comments
Discussion:
Brady Shaul is excited with the selling of Cedar Canyon property and believes everyone benefits from the decision. He was impressed by the presentation on Math Talk. He also congratulated the Cross Country team for their performance at state. BJ Peters thanked John Wiedeman, his staff, and students for coming to the meeting and presenting. Josh Lacy was also pleased with the math curriculum and the sale of Cedar Canyon property. He is very thankful for the board, teachers, and students. Mary Winn was appreciative for Mr. Dlugosh visiting the district. She is pleased with the staff member of the month recognition. Brian Copsey is thrilled with the success of the football, band, and Harmony team.
