Brent Holliday encouraged the Board to maintain a steady schedule with work sessions noting the benefit of past meetings. Next, he wished attendees a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels as they enjoy time with family and friends. Mary Winn extended kudos to the mock trial teams (blue and gold) with their recent district runner-up and championship records. She was thrilled to see the stage in the freshman academy being utilized for practice noting the impact the grade reconfiguration and added space had made. The gold team had secured the runner-up finish. Winn indicated that there were now a larger number of freshmen involved in the activity as a positive effect. Josh Lacy was pleased with the student turnout at the meeting, and the passion they shared. He enjoyed the Quizlette, and was looking forward to the possibility of using it at home to host friendly competition among family. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Josh extended his gratitude to the staff of GPS for their daily contributions. Brian Copsey highlighted the Samsung video. Several community members had shared positive feedback with him. For him, seeing what the kids were doing with the technology and to the advanced degree was very impressive. Copsey also spotlighted the GPS Foundation for their upcoming recognition at the State Board of Education convention in Omaha as he stated "there are exciting things going on!" President B.J. Peters reflected on both the Samsung video as well as the recent 'I Love Public Schools' sobering 30 minute documentary regarding student mental health challenges. Peters noted that students are growing up and maturing at a faster rate than they probably should. As a grandfather, this is concerning to him. He wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and reminded attendees to take time for friends and family. The meeting was adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
