6.1. Northfield Elementary Building Report
More Information:
Principal Betty Smith and students from Northfield will report on the Northfield Marathon.
Discussion:
Mrs. Smith, principal of Northfield Elementary School, reported on the school marathon which took place over 30 days. The students who participated, met at the Northfield school by 7 a.m. every morning to run a mile. After completing the 26.2 mile marathon, the 95 students who finished the challenge, were awarded a medal. Big thanks were given to Michael Moravec, of Monument Physical Therapy Gering, for providing the students with medals. Mrs. Smith mentioned her vision for the marathon was to promote a healthy lifestyle, decrease childhood obesity, and help students be more engaged through out the school day. Carleigh Pszanka, Parker Long, Aidan Long, and Lexi Brandt were some of the students who finished the marathon that were gracious enough to tell us about their experience. The students reported that they felt a since of accomplishment, enjoyed participating in the program, and were very thankful to Mrs. Smith. 6.2. Curriculum Committee Report
Discussion:
BJ Peters reported for the Curriculum Committee on discussing the expansion of the Wonder Reading Program to the K2 level. The committee looked at the test scores which have already been showing improvement. More Chrome Books have been added into the schools as well.

6.3. Business Committee Report
Discussion:
Brady Shaul reported for the Business Committee which has approved all AP listings. He also mentioned the plans of purchasing new vehicles to replace the Gering Schools vehicles that have endured 200,000 miles of use. Also, Gering Schools will continue to use First Student for student transportation, and are pleased with the work they do for the school district.

AdvancedEd Visit Facilities Study Update
Discussion:
Mr. Hastings reported on the upcoming AdvancedEd Visit regarding the Board of Education members. He also disclosed Gering Public Schools has received the facilities information from the RB&B and are making progress.

7.2. 2015-2016 School Calendar Revision
More Information:
In order to accommodate a request from the NSAA that we host the district speech meet on Monday, March 14, 2016, we recommend that the teacher work day be moved from Friday, March 11 to Monday, March 14. This will allow the entire school building to be utilized for the meet without canceling an additional day of school.

9. Board Comments
Discussion:
The Board of Education was pleased with the generous help the community gave for the Northfield Marathon. Brian Copsey reported that he was given many compliments on the new High School Band uniforms. Alan Doll was very impressed with the outstanding performance the High School Band gave this last weekend. He also wanted to thank Allo Communications for the $10,000 check Gering Schools received. Mr. Doll was thrilled with the community effort and was pleased that the public chose to give the Gering Public Schools the $10,000 which will be used towards technology.
