5. Superintendent's Comments
A McCook Community College representative notified us on Thursday, May 5, that they will no longer allow MPS students to attend welding courses on their campus during the school year. We were told they want to offer a different program which will cut off access to McCook students. We are working to resolve this issue with MCC. Let me state that I believe this situation will be resolved amicably. Short Teacher Clarity Presentation - Corwin Training in August focusing on teacher clarity (.75 effect size) - Book Study 2022-2023
2022-2023 student handbooks presented for review. Graduation is on Friday, May 13 @ 6pm Last day for students is Thursday, May 19 Last day for teachers is Friday, May 20 Summer school is June 6 through June 30
Discussion:
Mr. Norgaard presented a timeline on communication concerning the McCook Community College Welding program. Mr. Dickes also stated his timeline of communications with MCC. Mr. Bredvick asked Mr. Gross and Mr. Dickes how long we have had a partnership. Mr. Gross believes it was 14 years.
Kelly Rippen was in attendance and was asked by Mr. Hays to clarify McCook Community College's stance. She stated that the program would continue to serve the same total number of students. High enrollment for college students and MHS welding -2 students is what is causing a decrease in welding 1 students. The program will still serve the same total number of students, but due to safety, the enrollment cannot be expanded. Mr. Norgaard then presented Teacher Clarity and Success criteria and how the district will be moving forward with teacher training in 2022-2023. Mr Norgaard reported that he attended the Nebraska state Board of Education meeting in North Platte on Friday. It is very political in nature at this time.
