Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

The board will generally allow a total of 30 minutes for the presentation of all public comments.  Individuals may only speak one time per topic and must limit comments to around three (3) minutes. In the event more than 10 individuals wish to address the board, the 30 minutes will be divided equally between the number of speakers. At the discretion of the Board President or Chair, speakers may be allotted additional time.

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Consent agenda items include minutes from the January 27 meeting; January Financial Reports, January bills in the amount of $326,766.83 for the General Fund, and $9,000.00 for the Building Fund. Prior to the meeting Heather Johnson and Linda Richards reviewed the bills.

Rationale:  Ms. Jody Blessen and Dr. Cecilia Wilken will provide an overview of the school improvement plan and process for Seymour Elementary School.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler will present a slide deck that outlines Ralston Public Schools 2020 and Beyond.  This presentation has been put together to start sharing with stakeholders in advance of the NASB Community Engagement Process to be completed in March.  The information included along with feedback from the community engagement process and the Board of Education will become the goals and focus areas of the Superintendent and the Board of Education for the next 3-5 years.  

Dr. Adler will also share some preliminary information about the NASB Community Engagement Process.

Rationale:  Dr. Cecilia Wilken will provide an update to the Board of Education on some changes within the Math Course Offerings at Ralston High School.

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will provide a DRAFT Budget Adoption Calendar to the Board of Education for discussion.  After receiving input, Mr. Buckingham will finalize the 2020-2021 District Budget Adoption Calendar.

Rationale:  Dr. Mark Adler and Mr. Jason Buckingham will provide an overview to the Board of Education on the proposed new Memorandum of Understanding governing the School Resource Officer Program with the City of Ralston.  The SRO MOU has been reviewed by legal counsel.  The administration would ask that this MOU along with any suggested changes be approved at the February 24th Meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler will share information about the DRAFT Interlocal Agreement between the City of Ralston and Ralston Public Schools concerning the use of Orval Smith Baseball Field and Crown and Wager Softball Fields.  The DRAFT agreement is attached and is for discussion at the February 10, 2020, meeting of the Board of Education.  After input and discussion, any changes can be included and then approved at the February 24, 2020, meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale: 

Dr. Adler and Mrs. Richards will update the Board regarding Legislative issues.

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will outline a request to the Board of Education to grant permission for liquidation of at least one sewing machine from Ralston High School to an interested student, family, or patron.  Board of Education Policy 3019--Sale or Disposal of School Property, clearly outlines the process for liquidation of items such as this.  The administration asks the Board of Education to approve this liquidation request as outlined.

Rationale:  As a result of contract negotiations between the Board of Education and the Ralston Education Association, the Administration asks for the approval of the proposed 2020-2021 Ralston Education Association Negotiated Agreement.
