AdvancED Standard 2.1 - The governing body establishes policies and supports practices that ensure effective administration of the system and its schools. Policy 2008, Board of Education Meetings.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler will administer Board Policy 2004, Oath of Office, to the Board of Education members.

Rationale: 

Reorganization of the Board for the 2019 year.

Dr. Adler will take nominations and conduct the election to name a Board of Education President for 2019.  Once the Board President is selected, that person will then conduct the nominations and elections for the Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Board of Education. 

Standard 1.5 The governing authority adheres to a code of ethics and functions within defined roles and responsibilities.  Policy 2002 Organization of the Board.

Rationale: 

A complete copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the back wall of the Board of Education meeting room.

Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Rationale: 

Consent agenda items include minutes from the December 10, 2018 meeting; December, 2018 Financial Reports, December bills in the amount of $758,051.81 for the General Fund, and $22,734.86 for the Building Fund. Prior to the meeting Jay Irwin and Mary Roarty reviewed the bills.  Local substitute request for Deborah Velez.

Rationale:

Rationale: 

Board of Education members will discuss items they have recently observed or attended or items they wish to share with the other members of the Board of Education and the public.

Rationale:  RMS science teacher, Megan Rerucha, and two of her students will present their "Code Crush" technology presentation.

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will guide a discussion and report from our District Auditor about the results of our recent District Audit.

Rationale:  Ms. Jesse Tvrdy will present information to the Board of Education on processes and activities to support students as they prepare for the ACT exam later in the Spring.

Standard 1.8 Leaders engage stakeholders to support the achievement of the system's purpose and direction.  Policy 2022 Reporting to the Public.

Rationale:  Dr. Cecilia Wilken and Mrs. Stolley will present data and information to the Board of Education on the District Home Visit Program.

Rationale: 

Dr. Adler and Mrs. Richards will update the Board regarding Legislative issues.

Rationale:  Dr. Jay Irwin will update the Board of Education on items and information that is under consideration with the Nebraska Association of School Boards.

Rationale:  After completing a comprehensive evaluation and defining the terms of the proposed superintendent contract, the Board of Education will be asked to approve a three year contract for Superintendent, Dr. Mark Adler for the years 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022.  Public notice of the proposed superintendent contract was made available on the Ralston Public Schools website as outlined by the Superintendent Transparency Act.  The proposed contract and projected costs are attached to this agenda item for review.

Standard 3.4 The system attracts and retains qualified personnel who support the system's purpose and direction.  Policy 4025 Superintendent.

Rationale: 

The Board and Administration will review proposed policies.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Board of Education will enter into closed session to engage in a strategy session with respect to a possible real estate lease matter. The closed session is necessary for the protection of the public interest.
