Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

The board will generally allow a total of 30 minutes for the presentation of all public comments.  Individuals may only speak one time per topic and must limit comments to around three (3) minutes. In the event more than 10 individuals wish to address the board, the 30 minutes will be divided equally between the number of speakers. At the discretion of the Board President or Chair, speakers may be allotted additional time.

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Rationale: 

Consent agenda items include minutes from the July 26th meeting and the August 2nd Work Session; July Financial Reports, July bills in the amount of $806,616.29 for the General Fund.  Prior to the meeting Jay Irwin and Liz Kumru reviewed the bills.

Recommend the following teachers be hired for the 2021-22 school year:
Shawna Younghans - RHS SPED.  BA-UNO, MA-Special Education-UNO, MA-Administration- (UNO).
Jaque Maddox - RHS Family and Consumer Science. BA-Bradley University.

Recommend the following teacher resignation be accepted:
Chase Grove - RHS Family and Consumer Science

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will provide analysis of bids that have been submitted for the purchase of a new bus for Ralston Public Schools.  RPS follows a defined vehicle replacement plan to address vehicle needs in a fiscally responsible way.  Mr. Buckingham will outline the details of the submitted bids and address any questions that arise from the Board of Education.

 

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will provide an overview of an area of the roof on Ralston High School that will be replaced this Fall.  The identified roof project is the result of storm damage and will be financially support by insurance proceeds.  Mr. Buckingham will outline the details of the project and address any questions that the Board of Education may have.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler and the administrative team will provide an overview of the draft 2021-2022 Health and Safety Protocols under consideration for the Fall term at Ralston Public Schools.

Dr. Adler will review the enrollment information with the Board.

Rationale:  Mrs. Robin Richards will update the Board of Education on items and information that is under consideration with the Nebraska Association of School Boards.

Rationale:  For the past three years, Board of Education members and District Administration have been reviewing, researching, and developing an approach to upgrade all facilities across Ralston Public Schools.  Further, two different rounds of community engagement were conducted along with a phone survey and online survey of stakeholders to obtain feedback and guidance.  Multiple in person community meetings were held to outline proposed needs and gain further feedback from patrons.  After a detailed analysis of collected information from many sources, the Administration recommends the approval of a General Obligation Bond resolution in the amount of $83,750,000.  The proposed bond resolution will provide upgrades to every District campus location to include upgrades to Safety, Security, Efficiency, Technology, Indoor Air Quality, Equity in Learning Environment, Early Childhood, Student and Staff Health, Career Education, Activity Facility Upgrades, and the replacement of Mockingbird Elementary School.

Rationale:  Dr. Mark Adler provided an overview of the proposed changes to the Ralston Public Schools Staff Handbook for the 2021-2022 School Year at the July 26th Meeting of the Board of Education.  Attached are the proposed redlined changes, proposed handbook with changes incorporated, and an overview of the proposed changes.  The administration would ask that the handbooks be approved at the August 9th Meeting of the Board of Education.
